[video/audio] Richard Heinberg , Peak Oil, Cuba, p 0 r n and a Black Cat by mouseclick .....
A look at Peak Oil, with some comments on Organic Gardening and some interesting video and pics of a cute li'l pussy.

I have ordered my organic seeds, a pH meter and a oil testing kit. I tried to test the pH of my soil using some urine test strips that I used for water fasting, but the PH scale is quite large, it seems to be around 6.
I have read enough on Fuhrman, Campbell, Esselstyn and the likes to know this is the right thing to do. I also came across a book called "The Party's Over: Oil War and the fate of Industrial Societies" by Richard Heinberg so I Googled him and found some YouTube videos:
He is an American journalist and educator who has written extensively on ecological issues, including Peak Oil. He has written a few books.
In this interview he talks about why oil is such an important energy supply, our dependency on it and what will happen once supplies start to dwindle.
He thinks that global production is going to decline, and so do I, and in the very near future. As I have a science background I am very much aware of energy, and he points out that even driving a car a fairly short distance equates to weeks of hard labour.
He mentions diachronic competition. That is, we are competing with our future descendants. We are wasting this oil by burning it, in the future there may be new opportunities for things to do with oil which now will be lost, for example space exploration.
There were 1 billion people on earth in 1820, is now around 7 billion. How much can the world support when we run out of oil? 1 billion maybe? More? The second video in the series:
Urban gardening or massive starvation:
To sustain life without massive starvation we are going to have to use all our intelligence and resources in the change.
This is a reversal of the trend in the 20th century, then it was people moving into industrial areas because they could not compete. In the future, there will not be the energy to transport food to them. They will need to go back to places where there is land to grow food.
System Failure:
Competing conditions, wars, farmers going bankrupt due to fuel costs due to price of oils, economies collapsing, homelessness and so on. A bigger depression than in the 20s, worse because we are so dependent on oil.
Collapse of Civilization Again:
24 civilizations have collapsed in history, however this is a global issue. It may happen very soon, middle of this century. It will affect OUR children. I guess they won't be thinking much of their parents and grandparents for causing this problem.
Do We Have More Intelligence than Yeast?
If you put Yeast in a jar of grape juice they will eat all the sugar then die off, we are doing the same thing with fossil fuels.
Well, I have more intelligence than yeast, though I am not sure about others.
It was interesting to note that the problem of a massive fall in oil supplies happened in Cuba recently, a country I visited in 2005. The people all looked healthy and we had to use their medical services (not me personally) but the Cuban doctors were very good.
When the Soviet Union collapsed in the early 90's, Cuba lost half its oil overnight. I picked this up on YouTube, it's a bit chatty but I found one for the guys later on:
It features an interesting person called Megan Quinn who made a film called "The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil". Here is the video:
I was aware of what Cubans were doing, and I think Chavez is also doing urban gardening in Venezuela, yes I found a link to it http://towardfreedom.com/home/content/view/869/
Guess what Megan Quinn's solution is? ha ha, (rubs hands with glee for doing the right thing) you'll have to watch it to find out.
But if that gets too boring, here's one for the guys:
Wow, is that HER on the right? It's the same wall, it has to be. It's great to see someone so beautiful with more intelligence than yeast (don't shoot the messenger, Heinberg said it not me).
On a funnier note I seem to have a acquired a new guest. His name is Cole, and here's a picture of him:
