Stevie Wonder's protest song was not sung at the White House concert this week - we hope Obama never deserves to hear it.

Wonder at the White House
Stevie Wonder played at the White House for Pres. Obama and friends... isn't that lovely!!
Stevie Wonder has been a big favorite of mine since the early 70's; I even played in some bands that played songs such as Superstition and later on Sir Duke [I was a sax player, and those horn lines were pure gravy].
What he did NOT sing at the White House might be of note however. I don't have the complete song list in front of me, but I am pretty sure he didn't play his 1974 song called "You haven't Done Nothin'", a political protest song, more of a lament.
The lyrics for "You Haven't Done Nothin'" go thusly:
"We are amazed but not amused at all the things you say that you'll do,
You're much concerned but not involved with decisions made by you,
But we are sick and tired of hearing your song
Tellin' us how you are going to change right from wrong
Cause if you really want to hear our views, you haven't done nothin'
Its not too cool to be ridiculed but you brought this upon yourself
The world is tired of pacifiers, we want the truth and nothing else, yeah.
And we are sick and tired of hearing your song
Tellin us how you are gonna change right from wrong
Cause if you really want to hear out views, you haven't done nothin'
We would not care to wake up to the nightmare that's becomin' real life
But when misled, who knows a persons mind can turn cold as ice
Why do you keep on making us hear your song
Tellin us how you are going to change right from wrong
'Cause if you really want to hear our views, you haven't done nothin'.
-----
This might be a song that Wonder will sing with Obama in mind some day, but we hope not. These lyrics were intended, I would imagine, for most of the politicians that have gone on before, Republican or Democrat.
Like me, I suspect that Stevie Wonder is waiting, giving Pres. Obama some time to make good on his potential "to change right from wrong", before we make any judgement on Obama's sincerity and value to the world. As yet, we are still "amazed by all the things you say that you'll do", but has not yet had the time to do them.
We are not yet "sick and tired of hearing his song", but we are just starting to "wake up to the nightmare that is becomin' real life" in this economic crisis, and the two wars, and global warming, and all those other issues.
Obama is the most promising leader America has had in a long long time, and if he won't do it then indeed our hearts, or minds, "will turn cold as ice" with disappointment - if he can't get it done, who ever will?
We certainly hope Obama has heard our views, and we know he did because his campaign was all about listening to what people said, he even had his supporters write little essays about why they wanted to campaign for Obama. If the day comes when Obama once again asks us for our views, we hope we don't have to tell him "You haven't DONE anything Mr President". And, if that day comes, it probably won't be in a White House concert that it gets said.
We are waiting patiently, with hope yet alive in our warm hearts Mr. Obama. This is one song we hope we never have to sing to YOU.
