Stalling in Canada and the USA by Karlin .....

Canada and American governments are paralysed - that is the way the Right wants it.

Added Later - I see that this has not formatted with paragraphs, and I cannot seem to change it... sorry about that my dear readers!! Next time will be better - here is this one: .... ...'Things have ground to a halt in the political corridors of Washington and in Ottawa Canada. How strange that both places would have ended up being in a position of "LAME DUCK" at the same time!! In Canada, Prime Minister Harper has deliberately stirred up a kettle of trouble there with the result of paralyzing the Canadian Parliament. The opposition parties did not really have any option other than to play their role in it all. For the first time in Canada's history, Parliament is going to be empty for the 6 weeks from Mid December to nearly the end of January 2009!! This prevents any government money from being spent on economic stimulus. The same thing is happening in the USA - with President G.W. Bush occupying the Oval Office until nearly the end of January 2009, no government money is being spent to help out "main street". They did manage to get $700Billion out to the bankers, but that money just sort of disappears into the bank's equity value, and very little of it will ever reach "main street". Being a political conspiracy theorist, I cannot help but wonder if this is the plan from both of these conservative types. They have an ideological negativity about government money going to the poor and middle classes because they believe so strongly in the "trickle down" theory of Reaganomics. But do they believe it, or do they just use it as a cover for their real agenda? After all, "trickle down" economics has been widely discredited ever since the greed of the financial industry has ruined the economic system with the "credit crisis", and since there was actually a reversal of the prosperity of the poor and middle classes [they got poorer] as the rich grew richer since the 1980s. I see that trickle down idea as simply being an excuse to only help the wealthy who can obviously do more good for the politicians than poor and middle classes ever will. As evidence, I will point out that the Bush people are not willing to help out GM and other automakers now, maybe because the big three have $60Billion in debt and only earn about $3Billion a year, so the prospects of having extra money to toss to the politicians is not there anymore!! {I must add that I am not actually in favor of helping out "the big three" American automakers, since they have been so stubborn about making efficient and electric powered vehicles.} So here we sit while both Canada's and America's governments - both of them currently have Right Wing leaders - are essentially paralysed ; we are watching the economy pummel the poor as jobs disappear [which is probably good for the corporate bottom line], and as financial values, despite going down overall actually accumulate towards the top during this recessionary period. Yup, the best thing for the wealthy elites is that nothing happens to stimulate the economy of main street. No money for homeowners to help them stay in their homes, no money for public works - "shovels in the ground" - in public infrastructure improvements, and all the other Obama plans to support education, health care coverage, or to make changes in the wars in Arab nations. The Right Wing Republican Conservative types are happy with things the way they are now ; to them, change is not good - thats why they are known as "conservative" and not "progressive".
