An Observation made in a Greek Restaurant
Date: 4/3/2008 3:14:27 PM ( 16 y ago)
I was sitting in a small Greek restaurant the other day. It's next-door to a Starbucks. In walks a rather Large lady, I would estimate she is in her mid-30's. She had in her hand a VENTI (huge!) frappuccino. My first thought, on seeing her and her overweight condition, was "she sure doesn't need a venti!"
As she stood there waiting on her food, a boy who worked at the restaurant asked her, "You've lost a lot of weight, haven't you?" She said, "Yeah." He said, "How much?" and she replied, "135 pounds... but I was sick recently and gained 10 back."
WOW.
First of all, it's great that she lost so much weight. It really is. It got me thinking and curious, though.
I don't know why on earth she got a Venti. A small, maybe. A King-Kong large? Why did she get that? I got a Venti once, and it was ridiculously large. Perhaps if I saw a scrawny person with a Venti I'd just think, "Oh, they love Starbucks" but I guess if you're overweight at all you just look gluttonous with a Venti.
How did she gain 10 back? What kind of sick was she? I know when I'm sick, I lose weight, not gain it.
How did she lose this weight, anyway?
I felt badly for her, in a way - because to a stranger like myself, I only think "Boy does SHE need to lose weight" - and I have no way of knowing that she'd actually done an amazing thing and lost an entire human being's weight off her body.
I do applaud her, she's done a great thing and is surely healthier and has a better quality of life for being 135 pounds lighter.
I wish I knew more details!
