PAN ALERT: Tell India's Prime Minister "Walk your talk"!

On Feb. 20, survivors of the 1984 Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal began a 500-mile march to New Delhi to assert their rights to justice and a life of dignity and health. In April 2006, after marchers had fasted for seven days, India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh promised to do everything in his power to help the Bhopal victims and punish the responsible corporations.
But it was mostly talk: the site of the plant still hasn't been cleaned up, 20,000 people still drink contaminated water, and 10-15 people a day are dying from chemical exposure.

Support the marchers:  Sign this e-mail petition and join thousands of people around the world in demanding that Prime Minister Singh to meet with the marchers when they reach Delhi and address their demands. http://action.panna.org/t/5185/petition.jsp?petition_KEY=931

Dow Chemical (the site's owner since it bought Union Carbide) and the Indian government have failed to address the contaminated water and continued death and suffering from chemical exposure. The marchers are demanding clean drinking water, medical care, economic rehabilitation, and a full environmental cleanup. Other demands include the extradition of former Union Carbide chief Warren Anderson, who faces criminal charges in India's courts. The marchers also want the government to ban four dangerous pesticides that were approved after U.S. companies bribed Agriculture Ministry officials (including Dursban, Dow's chlorpyrifos product for the home, withdrawn in the U.S. in 2001).

Sign to send a postcard today:
http://action.panna.org/t/5185/petition.jsp?petition_KEY=931 You can put pressure the Prime Minister to meet with marchers and make good on his promises. Please sign this e-mail petition by Feb. 29, and we will handwrite your name and city on a postcard that will be sent directly to Manmohan Singh.

Thank you for supporting the campaign for justice in Bhopal! In early March we'll provide an opportunity to fax the Prime Minister to build pressure as the marchers near Delhi.
