Integrating fasts into my life by karmabytz .....

I'm trying to make a day-long fast a weekly ritual.

On Monday I did my first weekly day-long fast. I've kept the weight off since I ended the 10 day fast, and my skin is continuing to clear up.

I have managed to eat lots of whole grains, beans, vegetables, and fruits, with minimal dairy and meat. I still adore cheese but intend to keep it at a reasonable level since I want to avoid foods with cow hormones when I can. Chocolate continues to be a temptation I find hard to resist. I wanted to limit it to one piece a week, but ended up eating a little bit nearly every day.

I seem to be experiencing some mild PMS with heightened appetite, which caused me to end the fast early last night when faced with homemade chicken enchiladas. I don't even eat chicken, normally. But three bites of it and I was fully satisfied. I'm trusting that my body wanted it for a reason. They say the healthier you eat, the healthier your cravings become. I had a small cookie and one tiny piece of chocolate today and still craved more sugar, so instead of giving in and eating more candy, I had a tangerine and an apple with peanut butter. I'm proud of how that ended up, even if I was weak to begin with. I'm not gonna beat myself up over it.

I intend to do another juice fast next Monday. Right now my attention is on eliminating harmful chemicals from my surroundings. Today I made a decision that I want to start wearing organic clothing and use chemical free makeup and soap. I have to start researching all of this, among other sustainability related stuff.
