background of fast

i'm a student in college, and i have been a vegetarian for 5 years. i've usually eaten very well and i went into school promising myself i would try to make the healthiest food choices, but dining hall food, the stress of school, and the late night takeout in new york city has changed my mindset and eating habits for the worse. i'm just going back to school for the end of my winter break, and i feel tired and just unhealthy as a result of how i've been eating. i've just spend my last weekend before school with my two friends from home, and now i'm starting the new week with a planned 28 day water fast to cleanse my body and make it more possible to start an all organic and more healthful diet once again following the fast. i'm hoping the fast will help me get rid of these cravings for junk foods that i feel like i dont even try to resist anymore, but overindulge instead. Fasting may be good as well to give me time to really focus on what's going on in my life and look at everything with a calmed and clear mind. Overall, I just want to cleanse my body and rid it of everything bad I have been putting in it all year and hopefully help this feeling of lethargy and general unwellness that I have been noticing for several months.
