1. The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture [PDA] is protecting Monsanto by prohibiting dairies from advertising their milk is free from genetically engineered growth hormone!

The Center for Food Safety's website reports that "in October, the PDA announced new regulations that appear to prohibit any kind of ... labeling of dairy products [that they are free of genetically engineered growth hormone]."

The same report warns that recent research has shown conclusively that levels of an insulin-like hormone are elevated in dairy products produced from cows treated with this genetically engineered growth hormone and that numerous studies now demonstrate it is an important factor in the growth of cancers of the breast, prostate and colon.

Earlier this year, Monsanto, the company that makes the genetically engineered growth hormone, requested the FDA prohibit labels indicating dairy products were free of genetically engineered growth hormone. Fortunately, the FDA refused Monsanto’s request, but now the PDA is bowing to Monsanto. Worse yet, Pennsylvania's actions are now being considered in Ohio and New Jersey!

4. Hungary for popcorn? Teriyaki Almonds to the rescue!

Sometimes, my body just craves salty snacks. So, I came up with one that hit the spot.

Ingredients:

* Two handfuls of organic, raw almonds
* Nama Shoyu (raw, aged tamari—soy sauce)
* Sea Salt
* Distilled or spring water
* Crystal hot sauce (Louisiana hot sauce) or, if you want to be perfectly raw, vinegar/lime juice and cayenne pepper

Directions:

1. Soak the almonds in distilled or spring water (never fluoridated or chlorinated water) for 8 - 12 hours. This will wash off the enzyme inhibitors that prevent the almonds from germinating too soon in nature and prevent your body from easily digesting them.
2. Drain the almonds and throw out the brown water.
3. Put the almonds in a shallow bowl.
4. Fill about a third of the bowl with Nama Shoyu.
5. Add water to cover the rest of the almonds.
6. Add sea salt to the water to taste. Make it as salty as you want.
7. You should let the almonds soak for at least 6 hours, but sometimes I can't wait that long.
8. If you have any left, you can keep the bowl of almonds (still soaking in the liquid) in your refrigerator for several days.
