Amy's Kitchen

When I arrived at the home of Amy and Steve Finley
for the Southern California Wildfire Benefit,November 29,
one of the first things I wanted to see was the kitchen.
My friend Ron Nash has asked me and all his other friends an Email
that we vote for this design.
The kitchen--from the photos on the HGTV site--
did not come alive for me, but visiting it in person
was a different story!
The large Onyx Island, with LED lights shining through,
was very impressive.
I peaked into some of the drawers and took some photos.
I was impressed with the design and function.
You can see some of the photos of the entire room
on the HGTV site, and vote for this incredible kitchen
in their contest:

I wanted to convey a different sense of the space through
my photos, a sense of solidness, groundedness, strong foundation.
Someone in this design was taking time to build a house from
the ground up.
Within about ten minutes in the kitchen, I met Eric Jantzen,
who was the general contractor for the entire project.
This is a family affair. Eric is Amy's Finley's brother.
I would like to spend more time in this kitchen and
on the land with my camera. I found a sense of
art everywhere on this extraordinary design project.

Your EG
Art over the Island:
Island,
an Immense piece of Onyx,
at least twenty feet long,
gives a very solid feeling.
Very spacious.
Locally grown, organic food would be delighted
to be prepped on this surface.
Kitchen Faucet, Amy Finley's Kitchen:
I loved the boldness,
the artistry of this.
The faucet was in itself a
sculpture.

Mindblowing Article
that says it all for me:
As obsessed with light as a 19th-century French painter,
Finley is a designer, the founder and president of four-year-old,
Del Mar-based Finley Design, as well as an entrepreneur,
force of nature and self-confessed hippie chick.
Standing in Malaga, her 12,244-square-foot, 7.6-acre, seven-bedroom house
in Rancho Santa Fe, Finley reigns over all, including hubby
and baseball legend Steve Finley, as well as their five children, ages 2 to 13.
Finley is looking to open in the U.S. and Europe.
All of which means that Malaga is both a private home and public calling card,
an expression not only of Finley’s design but also her ability to execute a total vision
and environment. Details therefore matter more than they otherwise might,
and details in a minimalist house are always much more than the sum of their parts.
