Woman with MCS seeks safe housing! This is a very very very challenging time for me and I need HELP!

Dear Curezoners:

My old house is falling apart, and on top of that it has mold problems that are exacerbating my health challenges (MCS/CFIDS/allergies)  It is too costly to fix, and I can't live in it during any kind of renovation. My two siblings and I own it although I live in it. It will be put it up for sale as a "tear down" as soon as my children and I find a place to live.

I am looking for a rental house/townhome/duplex that is suitable for someone with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity/Environmental Illness.  Will also consider buying a home if the price is right ($450,000 maximum).  Any and all help will be appreciated, including prayers and good intentions!

  • willing to share housing with another woman/children with MCS/EI
  •  maximum monthly rent approximately $1250 (less is better, of course!)
  • 2-3 bedrooms, 1-2 baths
  • in a quiet neighborhood away from heavily trafficked streets and freeways
  • all electric appliances  (no gas stove/no gas floor furnace)
  • forced air heat ok as long as vents are free of mold/dust and the furnace is adequately vented to the outside
  • hardwood/tile floors throughout  (no-shag "industrial" style carpet may be ok)
  • washer/dryer hookups
  • free of pesticides/herbicides/termite control inside/outside
  • free of new carpet/remodeling
  • free of new paint unless low/no VOC (no oil based paint)
  • free of the residue of perfumed/scented products used for carpet/housecleaning/scented candles/incense
  • free of cat dander
  • free of cigarette smoke residue
I have my own refrigerator/washer/dryer.  I do NOT need a pool, air conditioning, dishwasher or free health spa.

Please email me any leads! Please refer me to any patient/understanding reputable realtors/property management companies in Southern California that may be able to work with me!

Thank you again!

Blessings!
Liora

Homesick: Living with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities is an hour long video documentary produced and written by Susan Abod that is now in the process of completion. In Homesick, Susan goes on the road to find out how other people around the country are coping with MCS and dealing with the difficult problem of finding safe housing. She visits their homes and witnesses their daily struggles. They come from all walks of life and live in diverse dwellings that include tents, a house on stilts and a teepee.
