MUSTARD GREEN JUICE

Traditionally Used For:

Asthma Bone Health
Menopause Muscle Relaxant

A Good Source Of:

Magnesium Vitamin A Vitamin C
Vitamin E

Freshness Test:

Look for leaves that are free of yellow or brown spots. They should be crisp with a good green color to them.

Important:

Due to the fact that Mustard Greens are a green juice, you will find it beneficial to have no more than about ¼ of your juice consisting of green juice.

General:

Greens are very nutritious foods. Greens are generally speaking harder to digest when you eat them raw due to cellulose walls. When you juice the greens, you extract the nutrients thus bypassing the cellulose walls.

ONION JUICE

Traditionally Used For:

Expelling Mucous Stimulates Good Bacteria

A Good Source Of:

Low Nutritional Value

Freshness Test:

The leaves of Onions should be dry and papery. Avoid Onions with black spots or bruises.

Important:

Onion is powerful. Use very little. Always mix with other vegetables.

General:

Onions are not particularly high in any specific nutrients as they contain a lot of water. If you juice onions, then juice them in small amounts and juice them first. Juice other vegetables after the onions to help remove the smell from your juicer.

GREEN PEPPER JUICE

Traditionally Used For:

Arthritis Circulation
Eyes Hair Loss
High Blood Pressure Skin Problems

A Good Source Of:

Potassium Silicon Vitamin C

Freshness Test:

A good Green or Red Pepper is slightly shiny. Ideally, look for Green and Red Peppers that have not been waxed.

Important:

Both Green and Red Peppers are considered a green juice. Therefore, you will find it beneficial to have no more than about ¼ of your juice consisting of green juice.

Since Green and Red Peppers have a strong flavor, you may want to reduce the amount used. You may find that ¼ of a pepper is all that is needed.

Do not confuse Green or Red Peppers with the hot and spicy peppers such as jalapenos. You do not want to juice the hot and spicy peppers.

General:

I personally prefer Red Peppers to Green Peppers.

Red Peppers are Green Peppers that have been allowed to ripen fully. A pepper will not ripen any more once picked. Therefore, Red Peppers are allowed to ripen on the vine. Red Peppers will contain more Vitamin C and Vitamin A than Green Peppers.

You can also use Yellow or Black Peppers. These are simply different varieties of peppers. But generally speaking both Yellow and Black Peppers cost more.

TURNIP JUICE

Traditionally Used For:

Acne Anemia
Arthritis Asthma
Bladder Problems Lungs
Circulation Eyes
Kidneys Liver
Skin Problems Weight Loss

A Good Source Of:

Calcium Potassium

Freshness Test:

Turnips are easily grown by yourself. They are hardy vegetables and if you are planning on juicing Turnips or Turnip Greens, consider growing them yourself.

Choose Turnips that are firm and solid.

Important:

Turnip should never be drunk by itself. Combine with other vegetables that are a good source of magnesium.

General:

Turnip Greens are very high in calcium. Turnip roots are also high in calcium, but the greens provide more calcium. In fact, Turnip Greens contain more calcium than almost all other vegetables and also milk.

Mix Turnip juice or Turnip Green juice with other vegetables that are a good source of magnesium such as alfalfa sprouts, dandelion greens, parsley, cabbage, sweet peppers, etc. The reason why you want to mix with vegetables that contain magnesium is because magnesium helps the body use calcium more effectively.

Vitamin C also helps the body use calcium more effectively, but almost all vegetables will supply some Vitamin C.

BRUSSELS SPROUTS JUICE

Traditionally Used For:

Cancer Prevention Immune System

A Good Source Of:

Calcium Sulfur Potassium
Vitamin A Vitamin B-1

Freshness Test:

Brussels Sprouts are in season during late fall. Look for dull colored leaves that show no wilting. Avoid those that are yellow in color.

Important:

Due to the fact that Brussels Sprouts is a green juice, you will find it beneficial to have no more than about ¼ of your juice consisting of green juice.

General:

Brussels Sprouts is a member of the cabbage family. Similar to Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts is an excellent source of calcium but contains less Vitamin A than Broccoli.

GREEN CABBAGE JUICE

Traditionally Used For:

Asthma Bladder Problems
Lung Problems Colitis
Constipation Hair Loss
High Blood Pressure Kidneys
Rejuvenator Skin Problems
Thyroid Regulation Ulcers

A Good Source Of:

Chlorine Iodine Potassium
Sulfur Vitamin B-6 Vitamin C
Vitamin U

Freshness Test:

Looks for cabbages that are solid and heavy with good looking leaves that are full of color.

Important:

Due to the fact that Cabbage is a green juice, you will find it beneficial to have no more than about ¼ of your juice consisting of green juice.

Cabbage can cause some people to experience an increase in gas. Cabbage can also cause people to experience some mild cramping in the intestines. This is due to the fact that Cabbage is high in sulfur. This sulfur reacts with bacteria inside the intestines causing this problem. If you notice this, then simply reduce the amount you have.

General:

Cabbage is a cheap and readily available vegetable. It's very nutritious and much more nutritious when raw versus cooked. I personally prefer Red Cabbage as darker vegetables have more nutrients.

PURSLANE JUICE

Traditionally Used For:

Acne Anemia
Bladder Problems Circulation
Constipation Eyes
Kidneys Liver
Skin Problems Weight Loss

A Good Source Of:

Iron Sodium Vitamin C

Freshness Test:

Another common weed that can be juiced. Look for Purslane away from roads or areas that have been sprayed with chemicals. Ideally, you want to pick Purslane in the morning. In order to save water, Purslane leaves will send their liquids to their roots once the sun gets too hot. Purslane grows during the warmer months.

Important:

Purslane can be a powerful cleanser of the body. It can really make the body detoxify. Therefore, you do not want large amounts. If you plan on drinking Purslane, then you may also want to consult a Naturopath or herbalist before doing so.

Purslane is bitter and so you don't want to use very much at all. Combine with other vegetables.

General:

I personally have never drunk Purslane juice. I have added this information though because there are those who like to use traditional herbal remedies in addition to the every day and common vegetables.

But since Purslane is a powerful detoxifier of the body, you will want to consult a Naturopath or herbalist before drinking Purslane.

Besides its natural herbal healing properties, Purslane is also extremely nutritious and chock full of vitamins and minerals.
