30 Day Juice Fast Journey -- Day Four
Add a little sparkle to your juices...
Date: 1/19/2006 6:56:37 PM ( 18 y ) ... viewed 5594 times Last night, I thought my computer crashed on me. It just locked up and I couldn't reboot it. I had to turn it off, then when I turned it back on, it kept saying something like, Can't reboot, insert disk... Unfortunately, my husband was at work, (he runs a lab for sleep disorders, primarily Sleep Apnea) so I just shut the thing off and went to bed. Thing is, my life is on that computer... some four years worth of photographs, thousands of my family. Hundreds of writings with several unfinished projects I'd been working on. My mailbox alone is about 3 or 4 gigabytes. I think that means it's really big, or at least it gets my husband and son all worked up. My husband says I don't have a mailbox, what I have is a virtual post office. Hmmm....
The horrible, horrible, naked truth is, I had not backed up anything. Notta thing. So, when I went to bed, I began tossing and turning and tossing and turning and ... my head just would not shut up! I was so worried I lost everything on my computer. That has never happened to me before. Because fortunately, my husband is a computer guru of the rarest kind and keeps my machine humming and tuned up. Not only is he a magician and can repair and troubleshoot anything dealing with computers, he does it as a hobby, which means he enjoys it and usually doesn't charge a cent. So, you can imagine how large his network is, of people needing his expertise. I prayed he could work his miracles and tell me in the morning that everything is saved.
I ended up falling asleep around 3-ish a.m. I woke up this morning before he got home and I didn't dare touch my computer and waited outside on my lanai with a cup of hot lime-pepper tea trying to stay calm. This computer crash thing really had me scared. When he arrived home, I told him what happened. He went into the office, while I stayed on the lanai praying. He comes out back and I am afraid to meet his gaze but knew I had to. Gathering my courage I looked into his eyes and saw a sparkle, a twinkle of... could it be mirth? Was I seeing mirth in his carefully controlled expression? By golly it turned out, I was, indeed, seeing mirth in his eyes. My computer did not crash. He fixed whatever it was and saved the day. My hero.
So, I spent the day today backing everything up. I burned 12 CDs alone on just the photos. Well most of the photos anyway. I was unable to back up my Asheron's Call pix because the files were too large, so I have to add the pics one at a time to the CD and didn't have the time for that. By the way, Asheron's Call is a MMRPG (massive multiplayer role playing game) online, like EverQuest. My husband and I are gamers and have been playing AC for about four years now. In that time, we've taken alot of screen shots of various battles and quests and well... I wanna keep 'em. So I have to do them tomorrow. Then I am pretty much done backing up the computer. I learned my lesson. Never again will I let all my files go that long without backing them up. I lost too much sleep over that last night. But you can bet tonight, I'll sleep like a baby!
But, awwww, dang, I've had a headache all day in the background, probably from not sleeping well the night before. But then a nasty ugly thing is coming up on the underside of my left arm and it bites and stings like hell. I have a red bump forming on my chest, so my sweater today was more conservative than usual. And I feel as though I have double ear infections. Bloody hell!
I knew today, Day 4, my body would probably be kicking in with some serious detox . I'm going to make myself a hot lime-pepper tea and soak in a steamy lavender/chamomile scented bathtub and then hunt some dreams when I am done writing this. Hopefully that will stroke my spirits and allow me to catch up on my sleep.
Today I juiced a pineapple. One of my favorite juices is simply pineapple and celery with a radish or two for a bite (I like those bites, don't I?). Another one is black concord grapes and cantaloupe melon. I pretty much keep the fruits for morning/breakfast juices and the greens for the lunch and dinners. Mangoes are ambrosia. They juice extremely thick though, so I need to follow it with a hard piece of fruit, such as apple, to push the juice through and clean the blades of goo-y pulp. Peaches also juice thick and are as gorgeous on the tongue as mangoes. Pears aren't as thick but are still a bit thicker than apple juice and sooooo sweet.
Here are some interesting fruit juice recipes. Adding sparkling water to your juices can add some razzle dazzle to the ordinary... but then I don't think these juices are ever ordinary anyway. They all just taste too delicious to me. But adding a fizz can be extraordinary in the middle of a prolonged fast. It can also make those people who drink sodas think they're still drinking sodas. Give it a try.

My lime-pepper tea is doing it's thang and my headache is beginning to recede, thank the gods of kindness and mercy! Steamy lavender/chamomile soak, here I come and then off to sleepy-town I go!
