Sport and academic performance go hand in hand
For several decades now, scientific studies have supported the relationship between sport and increased academic achievement . It was in 2014 and later in 2016 that new studies were conducted to better understand this relationship.
Sport and academic performance
In 2016, a research project was dedicated to analyzing the networks between regular sports practice with some rules and the academic results of students in university phases.
During the 80's, studies said that the impact of such a relationship was negative for a student's record, and therefore it was possible to end up not recommending the practice of sport during exam times or even during the academic year.
In 2016, to dispel this myth, a Spanish university tracked more than 3,600 students during the 2008-2015 period, the time when most of these students had completed their degree.
The study concludes that those students who engage in regular physical activity obtain an average grade 9.3% higher than those who do not. And not only that, a 2014 study carried out to students in pre-university and school stages in another Spanish university and published in the Journal of Pediatrics confirmed that muscle strength and motor capacity are highly related to academic performance.
Exercise improves performance
How can I improve my academic performance through sport?
Obviously it goes without saying that there are no miracles, without studying, dedicating time to classes, reading and exercises recommended by the teachers we will not obtain results in our file, just practicing sports is not enough.
Detect your shortcomings
If you are aware of what your limitations are, it will be easier for you to make up for them by practicing sports. If, for example, you find it difficult to set goals, a good exercise would be running, but if, on the other hand, your problem is in group work, choose a sport that requires contact with others, such as soccer.
Practicing a sport regularly and studying at the same time demands a lot of dedication, therefore discipline and commitment to you will be basic, to increase your capabilities you will have to overcome those first days of laziness and lack of desire. This discipline will also motivate you when you see that you are overcoming obstacles and limits. The discipline that you acquire in the practice of sports will be easy to transfer to your studies, as well as your motivation: each subject studied and each subject approved is a completed item.
Planning when you are going to have two intense and energy-consuming activities in your day-to-day life is going to be a must.
Also, if you are going to do sports outdoors, it is important that you plan what time of year you are going to start, it is not the same to start running in the middle of December than in May.
Try to make sure that your training sessions do not overlap with your classes or study time and once you have established your training schedule, try not to skip them for anything. Of course, there are always exceptions, when for instance an essay was needed as early as yesterday in this case custom college essays will be your lifesaver. If you haven't played any sport for a long time, it wouldn't hurt to have a training session with a coach.
Setting goals and trying to exceed them are a basic in any sport. Also think that physical activity has indisputable long-term benefits for your health, and will help you focus on those performance goals you need to achieve in your studies. Changing your form only generates advantages!
