I know its a never-ending process until we leave our bodies permanently...ggg
I am probably not a good example of normal but I can share that when I was dealing with colon cancer, my naturopath told me it would take 7 years to get my body on track again. Part of me wonders if it would have taken less time if she had said 5 years or so, but I was super diligent in doing everything she told me to do and *more* and somewhere in the 7th year everything clicked into place. I could feel the shift and see it in my body's bowel habits. Now I go for maintenance and a good mind-body relationship with myself. I "take care" of myself in most of the sense of the word, and all of the sense of the word in that I *own* all my choices, some which could have been better.
Along the way, it is the daily moments of joy and wonder that reinforce that life is precious and that if we choose to see the world as loving and giving, we can manifest that in our lives. If we choose to see it as a struggle, we will manifest that. As time goes by and you feel your body is working optimally, then there will be the inner landscape to scale and contemplate. No grand arrivals...always the inhale and exhale and the stepping forward into our futures....
I feel much more comfortable enjoying life too knowing I have educated myself on how to do cleansing and continue to do so. One of my goals is to never be in a hospital except as a visitor perhaps. I never intend to collect prescription bottles or worry that my body will betray me in any way. The Master Cleanse, parasite cleansing, liver flushing, all that and more will be a part of my dance.
It feels good especially to be a part of my own healing *team*...and over time, your self-talk will reflect your own goals to maintain the greater levels of health and mental well-being...
Enjoy the journey!

blessings,
