You are correct; because religions are the inventions on man to explain the unknown...  Most are based on some legalism or list of men's ideas to achieve or please GOD...   Man is quite capable of being with GOD with out any religion...

On the question of creating our own reality...   Reality is the truth lived or existed through time and space... I don't feel that we really create anything except to move forward living or existing on this pathway of life we travel... But in a sense you are right, since our existence is!!

   Then we do in a sense create our own reality from within,  but is more a moment by moment thing...  It is always connected with the universe as a whole...
