- Healthy Sexuality?!? by Liora Leah 19 y

I am wondering about this term: "healthy sexuality".
The invitation says that the proceeds of this event will go to Children of the Night, an organization that seeks to help kids and teens who have become prostitutes in order to survive on the streets. On the program are quite a few Doctors so-and-so that I assume will be discussing "healthy sexuality". So far, so good.
However, the invitation goes on to say that "stars" from the "adult film industry" will be on hand, and even has an "actress/producer" from the "adult film industry" as a speaker.
This, I don't get. I don't give a rats ass if adults do or don't watch "adult films" i.e. " p 0 r n o g r a p h y" by any other name. Each to his or her own. What I object to is equating the adult film industry with "healthy sexuality". Why do I object? The adult film industry is notorious for exploiting the sex workers i.e. "adult film stars" in terms of poor working conditions and unsafe sexua| practices. Because of multiple sexua| partners, adult film actors and actresses are at high risk of exposure to venereal diseases, including HIV/AIDS, and are discouraged from using condoms for protection during filming. If the workers get sick with a venereal disease, they often don't have health insurance and don't have the right to file for worker's compensation benefits, even though their jobs put them at direct risk. Is this "healthy sexuality"? There have been several exposes' about this issue in the newspaper. I'd suggest you read them.
"Adult" movies are also notoriously exploitative when it comes to subject matter--women, women's bodies, and women's sexuality are more often than not objectified and in some films violence against women and the portrayal of sexua| pleasure are linked. Is this "healthy sexuality"?
I'm all for adult men and women, whether gay, straight, bi or transgender, engaging in healthy, consensual, safe, mutually respectful, mutually caring, sacred erotic sex.
There is nothing in this invitation to the program that leads me to believe that sexuality is being honored as sacred. If anything, inclusion in the invitation of the teaser "you get to meet 'adult film stars'" leads me to believe the opposite.
It's too bad Judy Levy is involved with a program that is inclusive of the kind of exploitative and unhealthy sexuality as perpetuated by the adult film industry.
It's too bad Your Enchanted Gardener is involved with a program that is inclusive of the kind of exploitative and unhealthy sexuality as perpetuated by the adult film industry.
And it's even worse that the nonprofit organization, Children of the Night, is involved with a program that is inclusive of the kind of exploitative and unhealthy sexuality as perpetuated by the adult film industry, especially as it's an organization dedicated to keeping children off the streets, out of prostitution, and away from exploitative and unhealthy sexua| practices. I find this terribly ironic, at best.
Children of the Night: http://www.childrenofthenight.org/home.html
"Children of the Night is a private, non-profit, tax-exempt organization founded in 1979. We are dedicated to assisting children between the ages of 11 and 17 who are forced to prostitute on the streets for food and a place to sleep."
