are you sure you weren't doused by aerial spraying of pesticides over cropland? this could very well cause severe health problems, and the pesticides sprayed over the field certainly do drift in the air currents and can land very far from the intended site. you said it smelled like pesticides--well, of course it would if this is what is being sprayed over farmland.
