I tried to e-mail Senator Florz from his website but it wouldn't go through since I'm not a constituent of his district, even though I am a California resident (and registered voter, by the way)! This is what I wrote:
"Honorable Senator Dean Florez:
I OPPOSE SB 1056 that contains your amendment:
SECTION 1. Section 52007 is added to the Food and Agricultural Code to read:
"Except as otherwise specifically provided in this code, no ordinance or regulation of any political subdivision may prohibit or in any way
attempt to regulate any matter relating to the registration,
labeling, sale, storage, transportation, distribution, notification
of use, or use of field crops."
I oppose SB 1056 because your amendment takes away the right of local governments, such as cities or counties, to pass a law similar to Mendicino County's banning GMO food crops.
Your amendment can only be sponsored by those companies like Monsanto who want to further endanger our food supply by adding restrictive ordinances to the State Food & Agricultural code.
Please reconsider your position. Local residents must maintain their right to continue to express their opposition to GMO foods through local ordinances.
Sincerely,
(my legal name)"
So, now I'm going to write to him instead.
Thanks for all of your efforts, EG!
