Sara, same thing in former Eastern Bloc. They thought capitalism will bring them everything free, made out of gold. They are shocked they actually have to pay taxes. Previously, 2% of gross wages covered free schooling, medical treatments, very cheap kindergartens, school excursion, before-after school care, with homework help, cheap food, rents, cheap textbooks etc. At the time, housing loan was at max 3%, now hovering at 10%. Never had unemployment, now it is at 13%. Yes, they want back the "good old" days, where crimes were at very low rate too. Virtually no drugs available either.
