"A new position.
Manage the kitchen."
12:49 AM Thursday, April 10, 2008 - Chef Jem adds: What a concept! ;^)
I have seen the crisis
and (IMHO) it is in management!
A kitchen that attempts to serve more people than what it was originally designed for needs extraordinary management
and if that management is not happening in an individual way by all the participants then "hire" someone who can take on that function!
"including most everything."
CJ: This live-in position can be considered as including virtually everything concerning the kitchen i.e.:
"organization,
cleaning,
use of kitchen,
including how to handle
food items that could go into the sink.
Managing the prevention of clogging,
including sink clogging....
All of that description to be defined."
CJ: By the household!
"Would have to be unamimously approved
by all members of the Household."
CJ: For this position to function well it needs to be completely endorsed by all members of the household. And if there are any considerations in the way of that endorsement they need to be clearly expressed and noted so that they can be addressed.
"In would be a live in position."
A "Live-in" manager is required because the kitchen management function would be daily vs having some one come in "once a week". That means that all the cleaning expenses that were "allotted" for kitchen cleaning in the past can be "saved" by redirecting it into the kitchen manager (KM) position. It also means that all the money for clearing clogged drains can be redirected into this position that will implement a new system whereby no food goes into the sink!
"This would be up to all to determine how it would work."
CJ: The household will determine to what extent they want any and/or all kitchen management functions assigned to a manager. They will also have a say regarding how the financial impact of the manager's "live-in" position affect them, if at all.
"A percent out of rent."
CJ: Might be one option for the household to consider. However, the idea of an "EG Kitchen" having product sponsors should be explored and presented to the household for their consideration as that could potentially alleviate there being any additional financial burden as some members could not afford to take on additional expenses.
"Benefit.
They have a kitchen
that works for them,
that functions for them,
CJ: That functions really well for them to the point where it is a joy to be and "work" in the kitchen!
"where they know how to be in it."
The household will be newly encouraged to share the kitchen with other members in ways that will work for everyone!
"They have their orientation."
CJ: Everyone will know and appreciate their part in the "kitchen play" that is in harmony with the rest of the "players".
"They know how things work,"
CJ: And how to respect that so things continue to work well for everyone!
"how to take care of them,"
CJ: More respect.
"how to use things,
how everything works in the kitchen."
"IF there is any complaints or
it doesn't work, all the problems come
to the Kitchen Manager."
CJ: The KM will hear anything at all concerning the kitchen that any member wants attention on.
"If the Kitchen manager needs to come to the Ad min or
house manager, he will do that."
CJ: Otherwise the function of the KM will exclusive of that of the house manager and/or the "administrator".
"he will handle any and all issues."
CJ: To the best of "his" ability but not to the exclusion of the other members. Some issues may be the member/s own issues rather than a KM issue.
"This position will be of value to everyone in the house."
CJ: Everyone eats at least some of their meals at home! Most everyone prepares their food at home. Everyone will determine what the value of having this kind of dedicated support in their kitchen.
"Everyone will say how this will work for them."
CJ: The position will not be imposed on anyone. It will be by everyone's free and will consensus without exception. However, there will be encouragement regarding expressing all the things that may be around any non-consenting positions so that these things can be identified and addressed as best as possible.
