My heart goes out to you and your community. I hope everything is ok. I have been worried as I have family in the San Diego area.

I live in NYC. The air quality was terrible after 911 as were our hearts over the loss of life. What really helped were the many musicians, poets and speakers who came forward to help the troubled souls. Suddenly there was folk music everywhere.

At many of the evacuation centers in California people have nothing to do but wait it out. They may be receiving donated clothes, blankets and food, but perhaps some talented volunteers could come forward and entertain them in some way.

Music can be so soothing. I can't imagine how they must feel after losing their homes and personal belongings. My cousin has started a children's center at her local community college evacuation center to help entertain the children.

Anyway it is just a thought. Below is suggested donations and locations.

        DONATIONS NEEDED

        Donate for Qualcomm Stadium Evacuees

Mayor Jerry Sanders is encouraging San Diego residents and business owners to donate the following items in support of fire evacuation relief efforts at Qualcomm Stadium.
        Food Products (not home made)
        Water
        Tents
        Cots
        Blankets
        Pillows
        Sunscreen
        Canopies for Shade

Donations for fire relief efforts will be accepted at Qualcomm Stadium between the hours of 9 am and noon beginning Wednesday morning. The public is being invited to donate non-perishable food items and personal hygiene products and supplies at section A-3 of the stadium parking lot during those hours.

Restaurants donating prepared food products may do so at Gate F at the stadium during the morning hours.

Corporate and bulk donations can be accepted at any time with special arrangements. Qualcomm Stadium is serving as the central distribution point for stockpiles of goods and products being used at other evacuation sites in the county. Those planning to make corporate or bulk donations need to contact Jennifer Wolff, Director of the City?s Corporate Partnership Program, at 619-980-5424.

The City is also seeking access to a refrigerated trailer so that donated food can be stored on site. More information about the City's need for a refrigerated trailer can be obtained by calling 619-236-6167. .

Nelson's Photo at 1909 India St (Little Italy) is accepting donations of cots, blankets, pillows, bottled water, packaged food, pet food. Free parking across the street from Nelson's Photo. This will then be delivered to Qualcomm Stadium

        Relief Medical Staff for Qualcomm

Relief Medical Staff Needed at Qualcomm Stadium

Volunteers are asked to arrive at Gate A and go to the check in table by 8:00 a.m. Shifts are expected to last from 8 to 10 hours.
