Thank you very much for the article you posted!
I'd quibble with one thing, though, and it's the use of corn to make biodegradable plastic bags, utensils, containers, etc. While it is great that these products are biodegradable, it's not so great they are made from CORN. Corn, as grown in the USA, is one of the most pesticided crops around, it takes a lot of petroleum-energy to process, plus a lot of it is GMO'd.
I'd go for the re-usable products, myself, such as cloth grocery bags instead of paper or plastic, ceramic or glass containers for microwave reheating, ceramic, glass, or stainless steel in the oven, glass or safe reusable plastic for food refrigerator storage.
I do reuse #1 plastic water bottles; I rarely buy these, unless I'm someplace where I've forgotten to bring my own water, and when I do reuse them I fill them with water from my tap (that's gone through a water filter first). When they start to get "gnarly" i.e. moldy or dirty-looking, I wash them out with hot water and biodegradable dish soap, letting them soak overnight, and let them dry thoroughly on a drying rack, hanging upsidedown for good drainage, before reuse. I use 'em until they crack or otherwise fall apart, then recycle them.
as to the soap and dishwater, I reuse that, too--collecting the wash/rinse water in a plastic reusable tub to wash the other dishes in; when I'm done with all bottles/dishes, I take the water-soap outside and water the plants with it (not the potted plants, as they are in a confined system--put it on the hardy shrubs or tree base).
thanks again!
