Hi Les. Thanks for writing. Walmart carries tomatoes that aren't organic BUT the labels say no pesticides, herbicides, etc. used. Some people can't afford the process to become certified organic. I won't need Walmart or BiLo all that much soon as the local farmer's market will be opening soon. I remarked to my husband that the way I shop for bread in Walmart is to look for the most expensive bread which happens to be Sara Lee 100% wheat 2.89 per bag, no artificial ingredients. I think that I will have my mother teach me how to bake bread.
Certain Walmarts might sell Joe Farmer strawberries as some managers are very open to things like that. Some people will never shop in a Whole Foods. If Walmart offers organic vegetables, they will. I don't really care for a lot of the organics that Walmart carries personally except for the carrots, celery hearts and cabbage. I buy very fresh and local conventional stuff. Last year I did see a sign that said locally grown apples in Walmart so the mentality is shifting...a bit. The local grocery is still here even with Walmart.
