WOW! I am so glad you posted the BufferGel info! I have been trying to find info for a long time. I read an article a few years back - I think about these same researchers at Johns Hopkins - and was fascinated. At the time, they couldn't get funding from anyone to continue R & D, mainly because at the time drug companies, etc. thought they couldn't make enough money on it to develop it. The researchers themselves were hopeful it could be distributed in countries that are having such problems with HIV, etc. because it serves the dual purpose of contraception and STD protection. That and the fact that is is safe and under the WOMAN's control make it an alternative to condoms, which in many of the areas decimated by HIV are not often used by the men.
