my 17 y/o son has OCD and is taking prescription medication that has helped somewhat. His psychologist told us it was a seratonin reabsorption problem--his brain is making enough seratonin, but it is not being absorbed properly at the receptor sites in the brain. He is on an SSRI--seratonin re-uptake inhibitor. I have been waiting for him to become legally an adult before working with him to get him off of meds and onto natural remedies. This is a legal matter as I am divorced and any "alternative" treatments are unfortunately looked at by the courts as possibly child neglect if they are used instead of "standard" treatment. If I wait until he is graduated from high school this June, and will be age 18, I don't have to get his father's approval, as he looks down at alternative remedies as being "quakery".
I am wondering if it would be helpful to start him on the calcium/magnesium/flax seed oil supplementation while he is still on his prescription meds. I don't see it as being harmful, and it may further decrease his symptoms. any thoughts on this?
your blog is a very good place for me to start. thank you!
