  • Wild Dandelions in My Soup   by  The Wanted     15 y     2,785       3 Messages Shown       Blog: 100% Raw Vegan on This Cooked Planet
When I went on my walk today I was gathering greens to feed Jake from his owners' yard. (Jake is a mule.) It is not so easy to find greens around here. It's very dry and there is not much rainfall. There is a lot of sage and a couple of other plants, but regular blades of grass that are actually green are further between.

Anyhow, I noticed today there were a few little patches of green next to Jake's owners' house so I went over there on my way to give Jake a handful -- and spied wild dandelions! After giving Jake a couple handsful of greens I snatched up as much wild dandelion greens as my one hand could hold (had nothing to put them in and my other hand was holding Nikki's leash).

Oh, it was wonderful. When I came home I made a REAL green drink, with real greens! Two small bananas, a Fuji apple, 3 short celery sticks and, once washed, my handful of wild dandelion greens. I had squished them together pretty good I guess, because once they were washed and rinsed I was surprised at how much I had -- and it turned my drink a deep dark green. I'm so happy about this! You can bet I'll be foraging for more dandelion from here on in!

I also had fun making chocolate bars today. Ended up making two of them -- one midmorning and the other after dinner. I used my mortar and pestle to grind down the chocolate nibs and the few nuts I added (5 raw almonds in the morning; 3 raw brazil nuts in the evening). Then I put the ground nut and chocolate mixture (about 1/4-1/3 cup chocolate by the way) in a separate bowl and added 1-2 TBL coconut oil, a dash of salt and 2 tsp.-1 TBL honey and stirred it up. It was very liquidy so I pour most of it into a baggy and rolled it up and put it in the freezer so it could get solid (which didn't take very long). Both came out really yummy. That's an awful lot of chocolate to eat in one day, but I suppose that's all right once in a while. ;)

For dinner tonight I had my usual cucumber salad (without avocado).

    It's 7:30 p.m. now. I suppose if I feel hungry later this evening I'll munch a carrot.

    Cheers,
    Michele

My sister brought a tin of Cadbury's drinking chocolate back from Kenya. It's unbelieveable. I like it because there's no sugar but it's not raw cacao. If I really need PMS relief I use the raw stuff.

I just harvested a few cucumbers from my garden. Next year I'm going to grow dandelion on purpose. I'm sure my neighbors will love me!

I just walked over to the neighbor's house that has the dandelion and asked if it was all right if I forage for their dandelion greens and I got the green light! Today I got as much as I could fit into two hands and it will be enough for two days. ;) The land is peculiar here -- very dry, almost all sage and prairie grass. Even dandelions are hard to find, so I'm very excited to find a good (and very unpolluted and wild) source! The only other dandelions I have found have been on the edge of the highway and of course those would be affected by gas exhaust, etc.

I really overdid it on the chocolate yesterday, but luckily that only made me feel uncomfortable for a few hours.
