Wheatgrass is a powerful natural remedy in preventing, treating, or alleviating the symptoms of disease. Its therapeutic properties were highly prized by the Egyptian pharaohs, and today many notable doctors and research scientists have given wheatgrass the "green light" for its ability to improve health.
Research confirms the potent role wheatgrass plays as an anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-oxidant and anti-aging remedy. The juice, taken regularly as a drink and/or applied to the skin, can really can make a big difference to health, appearance and well-being. Why? Because wheatgrass affects the skin and other organs on a cellular level.
Q. It has been said that wheatgrass provides natural protection against aging. How does this affect the skin?
A. According to researchers, the young wheat plant contains substances that can actually encourage cells to grow younger instead of older as the years go by. Wheatgrass is also loaded with vitamins, trace minerals, amino acids and enzymes that purify the system. But the secret of its amazing healing powers is the green plant pigment chlorophyll. Also referred to as the green pigment of plants, it traps the energy of sunlight for photosynthesis. Chlorophyll has become a key player in the fight against aging skin.
Chlorophyll constitutes 70 percent of the solute in wheatgrass and has been extensively tested for its extraordinary healing powers. This 'green blood' of the plant draws its energy from the light of the sun and has the ability to infuse our bloodstream with healing and regeneration.
Cosmetic houses are now looking at sunbeams in a different light. Estée Lauder's LightSource Transforming Moisture Créme SPF 15, for example, takes the principle of photosynthesis - that light creates energy - and transforms it into its newest weapon in the fight against aging skin.
Microcrystals in the formula convert regular light into energy, which the company claims stimulates collagen production. In tests by Estée Lauder, 70 percent of women had "stronger skin and a better ability to retain moisture" after eight weeks of using the product.
Q. Does wheatgrass juice get absorbed into the skin?
A. Yes, as much as 60 percent or more of wheatrass juice may be absorbed by the skin. A superbly gentle skin cleanser, wheatgrass is also a wonderful toner. When applied regularly onto the skin it will eventually fade blemishes and sunspots. It stimulates the growth of healthy new skin and 'tightens' older skin. Quickly absorbed by the skin, it leaves it feeling silky smooth and gives it a golden glow.
Q. Is wheatgrass juice (or pulp) always safe to use?
A. It is not advisable to try wheatgrass after surgery when it could stimulate the blood flow in the area.
When you drink wheatgrass juice regularly you may experience some symptoms of detoxification. This is because wheatgrass is purifying to the system. It contains alkaline minerals that neutralize poisons, such as uric and other acids, that are released in the detoxification process. So always take care to start slowly and proceed with care.
Q. Wheatgrass - what is it?
A. Wheatgrass is sprouted wheat kernels which have been allowed to grow to the height of 6 inches or more, usually for 7 - 14 days (depending on warmth), either indoors or outdoors in trays or in the open ground. Wheatgrass is often grown in a special growing shed with controlled lighting and other desired conditions. It can also be grown hydroponically without soil.
When the grass has reached its optimal level of growth, it can be juiced with a wheatgrass juicer or an ordinary blender. When a blender is used, liquefy the wheatgrass with some pure water, with or without raw honey. Strain into a jug. What is left in the strainer is the pulp which can be used directly on the skin. Simply rub it onto the body and leave it on for 20 minutes or so before you take a shower. The pulp and juice contains many excellent anti-radiation and anti-inflammatory properties.
Wheatgrass juice is one of the best health tonics you can use internally and externally. When we are properly nourished we can function in a more complete and happier way!
