  • My "Other 20%" (Not Raw Vegan)   by  The Wanted     13 y     3,160       4 Messages Shown       Blog: Raw Food for One

    Just a quick note today.

    I'm not a raw foods or nutrition expert, but I have spent a pretty big chunk of the past 20 years reading, researching and trying out different diets -- especially veering in the direction of raw vegan diet.

    Because I have gotten my information from so many sources I cannot always say exactly where I got the information, but it struck me as having some weight -- i.e., some of the arguments for eating SOME animal products.

    The foods I frequently eat, though not necessarily every day, that are NOT raw vegan include:

    - eggs (usually poached; rarely any other way) and always cage-free and especially preferably from hens that have been grass and herb fed locally -- this is good for vitamin B12 and I cannot remember what else, but poached eggs agree with me;

    - goat cheese -- preferably raw, but that is harder and harder to get thanks to the very unhelpful local health laws that are harming perhaps more people than they help;

    - wild salmon (rarely)

    - krill oil (for omega-3 and other things including B12) will SOON be added to my diet; I WAS using fish oil which did not agree with me as much and after learning that fish oil is NOT sustainable for the planet and that krill oil IS sustainable, that's all I need to know, although I keep running into research telling me that it is also much superior to fish oil. (Krill is kind of like teeny shrimp and one of the most populous life forms on the planet.)

    What else? Well, just about ANYTHING -- especially when I am dining with old friends or family (which is not that often). I have found that I would rather eat what they are eating than make them feel alienated, if it comes to that. With many it does NOT come to that -- and with many it DOES come to that.

    Food is a deeply personal, social and emotional thing. I just want to get along and have people UNDERSTAND that I am NOT judging them, and if I have to eat what they are eating in order to make them feel all right I will probably do that -- as long as I don't have to do it too often. (smile)

    Cheers,

    Michele

    is a place where you can read a lot of information on the OTHER side of raw vegan -- with stories about people whose vegan diets did NOT work for them. My rule of thumb is to do what makes me feel balanced and what feels good to me. I think that if I become 90-95% raw vegan that would be good for me, but believe I am best off with SOME eggs, krill and such.

      A raw foodist is anyone who eats raw 70 percent of the time.

      I am a big fan of Chet Day but he made a recent video of him and his wife about a 21 day cleanse they are doing. And he is an out of shape slob. I was so upset to that. I post tons of his articles on health and well being. Sad real sad.

        That is interesting (and sad) to hear about Chet Day being so out of shape. The way he raves all the time I thought he would be really buff.

        I remember when he first started out he was into the raw vegan (or at least raw vegetarian) and would report on the results of himself and his family, and at some point after maybe a year or so his wife went through something intense that caused him to become convinced that she MUST eat meat -- and from there it seems he decided perhaps that everyone must eat meat, I don't know because at that point I was not as interested in reading because it was all put in such an emotional context I guess. Which is funny since if anyone has a history of being too emotional it is me.

        But anyhow, yes, I agree that 70% is a raw foodist too. It's all pretty relative how to figure out those percentages anyway. (smile)
