Re: hemangioma

My husband, who has a cirrhotic liver was recently given an MRI; the interventional radiologist came up with a diagnosis of "hepatocellular carcinoma"; we went to specialist yesterday at Mt. Sinai (world reknown liver transplant center) who has said that he believes the radiologist was incorrect in his diagnosis and after viewing the many levels of the MRI graphics said he was fairly positive that it was not cancer at all, but rather a hemangioma (lower right lobe of liver). My husband is in no pain - he does not drink AT ALL and is extremely healthy. The Mt. Sinai specialist has, however, ordered a "guided" biopsy, so we will not really know for certain until Monday, but he was quite positive that the spot was a hemangioma, "nothing more than a birthmark", he said.
So if anyone here has pain, it would seem to me that your primary care physician should refer you to a liver specialist and have that specialist determine whether, from your history, and your bloodwork, if you should have a biopsy....I would certainly want one! Good luck! Tweet
