Restrict Supply, Increase demand - the basic principle of modern life on earth, has no place in medical practise. Not if medical practise is all about doing whats best for the patient.

As in any busines operating within the corporate model, a medical business must do all it can to inmcrease shareholder value. Thats actually the LAW for corporations, it is written into the contract signed when an owner goes thru the process of becoming a "limited company". They exist to increase shareholder value, meaning the value of the stock/shares the owners own, public offering or not.

With that in mind, lets take a look at the advertisments for medical proceedures on television these days:
1] diagnostics lab - a local lab in Spokane telling us about colon cancer and digestive disorders, offering diagnostics like colonoscopy etc. What they don't tell us is that the heavy emphasis on dignostics these days is part of a plan to do the corporate thing and "increase demand and reduce supply" [which translates into higher profits, increased shareholder value].
*False positives, deliberate or not, are in the range of 25% [good for business!] ;
*Diagnostics are arranged to discover ONLY that for which there is a pill or proceedure - known as "results driven" testing ;
*Treatments to follow positive diagnostics [where something is wrong]will; be limited to the narrow range of patented products [pills from the pharmacy] and surgical proceedures, completely ignoring the often safer and more effective therapies offered by 'alternative' health care like HERBS , Electrical medicine; diets free of harmfull chemicals; etc etc.

Not "whats best for the patient".
They even admit it, and try to justify it all by saying "this is what pays for the research and for the doctors and for this hospital, so you better bloody well be damn GRATEFULL for the opportunity to pay this or you just wouldn't have any medical help"

Ya, right.

The Medical profession, like the oil business for eg. , has economic practises as the guiding principle.

How does diagnostics restict supply, or increase demand? -
- By increasing demand through simply doing more diagnostics, the supply of doctors and facilities become overburdened, and that is the 'supply' problem. From there, we will hear about shortages and the nedd for more funding from government or where-ever, to increase the capacity of the hospital system. This could be for any part of the body, not just colon diseases.

One nice thing for the 'medical economics' is that patients are willing to pay for the diagnostics themselves. Another is that the shortages created will be addressed [i.e. "funded"] by government and not their own business - most other businesses don't get that little perk!!. Governments are using your tax money to build hospitals for these doctors, to do their busniess in - joint replacements or bowel surgery or whatever - and then they charge us or our medical insurance to use them!!

Diagnostics will discover problems people never knew they had [ and might have gone away on their own too], as well as false positives, and of course the urgent cases where pain is present and a problems needs attention immediately. These are the only one that should be there, and we are gratefull for the help doctors give them. But it is rarely helpfull, it just becomes another chronic problem once the doctors get thru with us. A chronic problem with a huge medical bill. No effort is ever made to CURE patients of their diseases.

repeat: No effort is ever made to CURE patients of their diseases.Ever. The only thing modern medicine does is to manage symptoms. I cannot believe people do not protest this as much as I do.

Alternative medicine, the ones with the non-patentable naturally occuring medicines, the health providers that get no government backing at all, often give us therapies that can cure people of their diseases. They are ignored by mass media, by medical authorites, by govenrment.

Are they ignored by you too?
Get a grip my friends... Modern mainstream medicine is nothing more than a corporate business, bound by the laws of commerce and without the patient's priorites being considered, doing "whatever it takes" to increase shareholder value.
Compassion has no commercial potential, remember than when you walk into a medical business.
