It sure seemed like a nice idea; to ride a train through the cotton fields, and over the lakes...  We even cut through a State Park on our trip through South Georgia...

Our rail car ... (Click to enlarge)  Train in Cordele Ga...

It all started out when I joined ' Friends of the Georgia State Parks ' last year...  I received free train tickets; and a couple of my grandsons just wanted to ride a real train, so off we went...

Had to schedule times so two of my sons could get time off on the days the train ran...  It turned out to be a Monday, in July...  Well we had to drive a little over 150 miles to the Train station...  Since it left at 09:30 we decided to just drive down and stay over in a Motel...  We got a super room,  there were five of us, three adults, two boys...  It turned out well, we enjoyed an old fashion pillow fight that night...  {Don't tell the Hampton Inn, let it be our secret!}

The train stops at several places and then after a two hour lay over in Plains Ga, starts back...  We decided to get off in Americus Ga. which gave us over three hours to spend looking around...  This is the home of Habitat for Humanity, and the Windsor Hotel ( built 1893)...   Because spending two hours in plains was like watching paint dry...

On the way we went over Lake Blacksher, a beautiful place to spend some time, if you like fresh water sports...  Yes, they have Gators on this pond folks!!  We had to walk up town in Americus because it was Monday and the trolley bus does not run then...  Whaaaa!!   Guess what we made it just fine, what is four or five blocks to guys who have hiked the Application Trail??

It turned out to be one of the best times we could have had... Met some wonderful people, saw the Restored Rylander Theater They have many first class performances there all year round and it has two balconies) , also saw some of the True Beauty of Dixie...

p.s. You can view some pics of this trip; in the "images" section under blogs,  kerminator;  then the Dixie section... Come take a trip an see if you do not enjoy the train ride too..   I have always loved to ride a train...

BTW: Cordele is the Watermelon capital of Georgia... Thought you might like to know!!

See Ya,  Kermit
