Dear Ray,

I want to congratulate you and Caroline and the staff
of Whole Foods Market Hillcrest for an outstanding
Celebration of the tenth Anniversary of Whole Foods HIllcrest.

It was great fun participating
with Joe Rodriguez Jr. and the other farmers.

Whole Foods Hillcrest and Whole foods have shown
their committment to local agriculture in San Diego
and deserve commendation for this.

I fully support your upcoming bustrip to Tierra Miguel
May 5 and suggest that we have these flyers in our
"Sign a Love Letter to Joe the Farmer/Plant Your Dream"

Ray and Carolyn, Dave, and Bill,
Thanks for the lovely weekend on Vendor Day and the Sunday anniversary.

I will have some photos before long for you and Regional
of the incredible weekend celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Whole Foods HIllcrest.

Ray, thanks for following up with getting some signage at the store on our
Local Foods booth co-sponsored by Whole Foods that will be in Earthfair.
The ad, made by Joelle, appears in the San Diego Earth Times, 25,000 copies.

I also need two 11x14 signs of this, one for the
EG Mobile that I can use now to promote the Sunday Event. One will go
on my cart in the Children's Parage at Balboa Park.
I would like to pick this up on Friday at 2:00 PM.

Our flyer also promotes the non-competitive $5000.00 garden grants for schools
that is available until Friday, April 20.

Dave, thank you for your support and enthusiasm aboit spreading the word on this gardening money
availability that is mentioned our our flyer.

Carolyn was suggesting flyers at the registers as well of our ad. I would love to see this!

Color copies in the elevators for our event would be very much appreciated, Ray.

The ad costs Whole Foods more than $600.00 so let's take advantage of
it and get all the good publicity we can from this investment.

DEMO of BERRIES FOR SATURDAY

I would also like to see a Demo on Saturday, with Vivien in charge.
.
Dave suggested have the demo for berries be near checkout.
That is what I would like to see for Saturday.

I would like the demo for Saturday 11-3, if that works for you.
I will come in and support that by telling people about the next day event
in Balboa Park, and handing out the San Diego Earth Times where the
Whole Foods Ad is located.

I am convinced from my experience last year that 10 boxes a day of
the Joe Rodriguez, jr. Berries will sell when we have good e signage and
photos where the berries are sold, and some coordinated announcements
to alert shoppers.

I will followup with coordinating some of the photo signage with Marci
so you have larger signage of Joe before long. The large signs made last
year that say...

SIGNAGE FOR BERRIES...

Locally grown..
Organically grown by Joe the Farmer
Strawberries
From JR Organics,
Delivered the morning they are picked.
$3.99. PINT

(make some for $2.99 as well for later in the season...)

Feel free to use my photos that Joelle has if you wish...

I realize we are really taking on a great coordination effort between Dave,
marketing, Bill, and Joe to make a success of these berries that have a
short shelf life.

My experience is that will sampling and good signage anyone who tastes
the berries once will buy again. I heard that feedback. Shoppers are use
to going for the strawberries in plastic. Bill did a great thing in having a
bowl on ice of samples the other day when I stopped by. I realize
that supporting the sale of fresh locally picked that day berries is
takes an extra effort.

I am convinced with coordination, some of the ripe berries
can be frozen into a gelato like dessert and have other store uses.

Joe Rodriguez Jr. believes he can buy back his 100 acre farm
that he now leases. Whole Foods Markets support of him has
lifted His spirit and given him his hope back.

I made an agreement with you Dave, that I am going to support you
in being Store Team Manager of the year for all the stores. All I ask
is that you don't leave us when you become famous!!!!!

The Whole foods Hillcrest effort to support the locally grown berries
has been nominated for an E.A.R.T.H. award from the EarthFair people.
I will communicate more about that later in a press release. Bill Becket, and marketing,
and Dave's support are to be commended for your outstanding work
in putting into action the Whole foods Market mission to support local farmers.

PICK UP OF FOOD ON FRIDAY

I will be in on Friday to pick up our $100 in gift cards $5.00 amounts
approved by Regional, as well as some boxes from Sun Grown and Noel Stehly
that will be left under my name at Receiving.

Bill: I spoke to Mike Rockford about making sure the boxes that are delivered
for me are saved in a special place. I will pick them up at 2 PM.

It is a great honor to participate in Whole Foods Market Hillcrest's
tremendous effort to support local farmers and especially Joe Rodriguez, Jr.
Together we are returning San Diego to its position as one of the growing
capitals of food for the world.

In friendship,
