The first time I met Barbara was in the early 80's.
We were in both M.C.'s at one of the first Whole Life Expo's
In Los Angeles. I remember she saying something about
if you wanted to get things done, L.A. was a place to be on the fast
tract.
Lots of years have gone by. Barbara DeAngeles has risen to the
top of her field. She now lives in Santa Barbara.
Spending time with her Sunday at Mark Victor Hansen's MEGA Speaking
Empire was one of the highlights of the day.
Barbara is for real, and her new book, "How did I get here?"
is an intimate expression of a woman who has learned from life
and shares that wisdom.
I opened the book at 4 AM the night after Mark's event, and
skimmed some of the pages. I found a deep resonance
and important insights. I like that Barbara is writing from
a place of self disclosure.
Here is a paragraph from the Introduction:
"I have not had an easy life. It has been riddled with disappointments
and disillusionments, barraged by loss and betrayal, and besieged
with far too many occasion for sadness and despair. I've been forces
to learn how to navigate through the unexpected again and again...
and again."
This book is about about dealing with change. It is a book from a woman
who has delved deep and come up with some emotional roadmaps
for the transformational journey.
The book feels like a new friend. I feel I want to spend more time
in a relationship with this material.
The woman shines through the pages. She has had her own up's and
downs. She has applied knowledge to her experiences. This breeds
wisdom.
Barbara says the book will help you understand the map you've been
using, and invites you to craft a new one by moving beyond the question,
"How did I get here?" to "What are my choices?" "Whatr do I do now?"
"How do I move forward?" "Where is it that I want to go?' And it
will support you in discovering the answers.
I was drawn to a number of Barbara's books, including one that
shares with women insights about men. It seemed a perfect
match for The Seven Love Cures, words that men need to know
and women want to hear. The Seven Love Cures are the poetry
plaques I have written, and use in my own relationship coaching
work.
I showed Barbara a number of The Seven Love Cures. She was
impressed with the photos.
I asked her for a sentence or two about the words, and appreciated
that she wanted to take more time to really getting into them.
I look forward to spending my time with the book.
I'll keep you posted on some of my Aha's.
