Lots of great environmental projects happening in San Diego! Environmental awards singled them out tonight.

Amazing inspiring evening
The City of San Diego Department of
Environmental Services "Green Building"

annual Very Important Planet
Environmental Awards were given.

This was the first time I met Donna Frye,
the Council Woman who ran for mayor of San Diego.
I haven't spent too much time really getting to know
this woman who was of of two of the major presenters
of awards. She is the real deal.

Turns out her husband, a well known surfer,
Skip Frye, became ill from surfing in the local waters.
Donna went to bat for montoring the local waters
and eventually got the state to set some regulations
in place. She said that "Most people are one tragedy
away from becoming an activist."

Donna apparently has been a main player in the environmental
movement in San Diego. She came very close to be the major
and actually won the vote count, that was later disallowed
by the courts. She seemed to be a home grown environmentalist.
She knew many of the people in the room and they knew her.

She is runing again for San Diego Council this June.

I found her very accessable. we took a sweet photo together,
aside from the one that was officially taken when I was on stage
accepting an Honorable Mention Award along with Executive
Chef Hermann Schaefer for the work we did last summer
bringing and preparing locally grown lunches at the International
Feng Shui Conference held at the Hilton San Diego Resort.

I told her about my current project,bringing the locally grown
organic strawberries into Whole Foods. I asked for her help
supporting the local farmers. She said that was a County issue
more than a City one, but she would help create a Press Event
with me.

I told her to call me if she needed a Soul inspired photographer.
She was enthusiastic. I offered her my support.

I also set things in motion, and got some clarity about
doing photo for the Slow Foods fundraiser this August.
Scott Murray, the President of EarthWorks, the sponsors
of this event, is an old ally.

I also spoke to Tom Fudge of the local KPBS "All Things
Considered" daily show about doing some feature about
Joe the Farmer and the issues facing local farmers.
I talked to him about interviewing Joe.

Lots of people seems to really get what I had accomplished
RE: local strawberries, fresh picked the same day, going
in the local Whole Foods Market.

The MC for the evening was Jeff Gelder, who has a program
on KyXy and is a radio personality. He told me in had mainly
a soft music show, but that he did voice offers. I asked if he
would do the interviewing of Joe for a Video and he said Yes.

There were some other sweet connections.

One was with the local event coordinator for the Naked
Juice Company, Pamela. The company is now national
and she understood and could verbalize well explaining
the problems involved with having seasonal organic foods
in Naked juice. I had a good come back, and told her
I would invite her over to enjoy a one of a kind juice made
from local organic strawberries and organic bananas
at the Enchanted Garden. She was open exploring
being an Enchanted Garden Sponsor at the Pacific Symposium.

It was sweet being acknowledged by various folks who
seemed to be aware that I was being honored.

I was very moved and inspired by the various other projects
in the city.

It seemed that some of the ideas I was tauting last summer
about Green buildings etc, were very much backed up in
reality here by people that were literally doing in 3D what
I imagined was the future.

The Ranch House at Del Sur is an exemplary project
resulting in a high-performance building that was designed
using sustainable building practices. Every aspect,
from design through construction to end-use, has been
thoroughly planned to minimize on-site energy use, maximize
the conservation of water and materials, and harmonize
with the surrounding environment.

Fred Maas of Black Mountain Ranch was given an E.A.R.T.H.
Award for that project.

Another inspiring presentation went to Judy Bishop,
Executive Director of the Ecocenter fof Alternative Fuel Education.
They have a great project that teaches and excites young people
about the fuels of the future. The teacher with the kids introduced
herself to me. I am going to visit that place that is in my neighborhood.

I felt a lot of juice for moving forward with
creating the EG Intentional Community as a education
center for the local community. We are four blocks
from SDSU.

Really Glad to meet Donna Frye and some of the
others. It was a good happening.
