who is putting on an incredible Slow Foods event
this Sunday at the Ophelia Winery in San Diego County.

It is now an international movement
helping us all return to The Good Life
of taking time to sit with the ones we love
eat the food of the farmer's we love,
and celebrate the top chef's.
There are going to be a bunch of great San Diego
Chefs at this event on Sunday August 28.
Scott Murray, who works with the Earth Day in San Diego
is also on the board of directors.
The goal of the event is to restore the San Pasqual organic
farm, and provide a place for children to learn about
organic farming.

LOCAL CHAPTER OF SLOW FOOD DEDICATED TO HELPING COMMUNITY
Slow Food San Diego will present its Second Annual “Taste of Slow Food” on Sunday, August 28th, 2005 at Orfila Vineyards & Winery in Escondido from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Guests will experience unique culinary creations prepared by twelve of San Diego' s finest chefs using fresh seasonal, organic produce grown by local farmers. Orfila’s own winemaker extraordinaire, Leon Santoro, voted California’s 2003 Winemaker of the Year, will give a special guided tour of the vineyards to VIP guests. Attendees will taste their way through exquisite food and beverage stations, browse educational venues and meet San Diego's culinary experts. The theme of the event is “Monet’s Table” and includes a silent auction of superb food related fine art and other donated upscale gifts. A special feature that night will be a performance of opera and popular selections by renowned tenor Daniel Hendrick who has thrilled audiences around the world with his soaring notes and rich powerful voice.
The event will benefit San Pasqual Academy, an alternative residential and education option for San Diego County foster teens who have been shuffled through the foster care system. Slow Food is committed to awakening young people to the enjoyment and health benefits of quality foods and the principles of land stewardship through the Slow Food in Schools program. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to transform San Pasqual Academy's gardens into organic, sustainable farming. Growing food is positive project for these abandoned teens; it can instill a sense of accomplishment and success that Slow Food hopes will last a lifetime.
Slow Food is an international educational organization dedicated to promoting ecologically sound food production, bio-diversity, reviving the kitchen, bringing our hectic culture back to the dining table as a center of pleasure, as well as preserving ethnic food traditions.
