John Vasconcellos. A former statesman in
the truest sense of the world, he served
Sacramento for 38 years as both a Senator
and Asseblyman.
John entered politics at the same time
he entered a conscious course of personal growth.
He was personal friends with many in the Humanistic
Psychology movement, and is a past president of
the Association of Humanistic Psychology.
I last saw John during December of 2004.
He was in San Diego for the day on business
and stopped to visit me at my home when I was
feeling too weak to accept his invite to lunch.
He is helping to put me in touch with some of his allies
in Sacramento. I am exploring going up their to lobby
for you RE: sb 1056, the proposed bill that would
take away local rights to ban GMO foods.
My intent in Sacramento would also be to give Kudos
to the Green Lodging Program that aims to help hotels,
such as the San Diego Hilton Resort, advance th the direction
of waste management.
One of the seven aims of the Green Lodging program is to
support environmental friendly industry--I want to make sure
that this expands to include local purchases of food from
Farmer's Markets.
Please spend some time on the Politics of Trust Site.
John was well respected across the political spectrum.

1. Not since our Civil War have our nation & our people been so divided - so many of us are searching for a new hopeful, healing politics.
2. What's most wrong with our traditional politics is not simply that it fails either to inspire us or to empower us to solve our problems – but that it's so based in cynicism and has become so negative, divisive, disheartening.
3. As the surest antidote to poverty is dollars, so our faithfulness is that for cynicism.
4. So we created THE POLITICS OF TRUST whose mission is empowering every person for effective civic engagement, according to our faithful vision of ourselves, our human nature and potential – as best articulated by Carl Rogers 'that we humans are innately inclined toward becoming life-affirming, constructive, responsible & trustworthy.'
5. Our goal is to translate this vision into our entire social & political realms, and to transform them entirely according to our faithful vision.
6. We have adopted a 16-point EXPANDING HUMAN AGENDA and composed a 10-page compendium of laws demonstrating our vision's practicality in all major policy arenas.
7. For our marketing & methodology, for educating & organizing, we've designed a structurally elegant interactive website to provide persons sharing our vision & passion & commitment – a 'Political Navigator,' whereby each can connect with the latest precious knowledge, the strongest allies, and the prime advocacy opportunities – so each & every body can empower her/him self to engage effectively in civic engagement, according to our faithful vision of our selves, our human nature & potential.
8. In particular we are constructing web pages that include a learning center, a community center and an action center - ultimately for each/all of our 16 public policy arenas beginning with 'AGING' (operational), then next (in preparation) 'HIGHER EDUCATION, then 'DIVERSITY & INCLUSION.
9. We are value-based, in our most cherished values - faith & hope & love (instead of fear and resignation and hatred), healthy individuality and community and America's 'CAN DO' spirit.
10. We just received a quarter million dollar grant as our seed money, and you'll find among our generous investors more than 1/2 dozen persons from either major political party.
11. With your help I've made a career of living at the cutting edge, upgrading politics to make what seemed impossible both pragmatic & credible. This is crucial because, as Willis Harman recognized, 'In today's world, only the idealistic is truly realistic!'
12. My 38-year dual personal and political odyssey (mirroring the evolution of our culture) provides me unique perspective for convening this movement toward THE POLITICS OF TRUST.
13. With a new economy based in global and technological entrepreneurship, a new demography based in multiculturalism and gender equity, and a new consciousness that is holistic and based in self esteem & self-actualization, it is clear that people are tired of 'the same old politics.' They are hungry for a truly new POLITICS OF TRUST. They are ready, and the time is right!
14. We're now lacking only the political will & the resources to bring our faithful vision into politics - 1st in California as a prototype, then throughout our entire nation.
15. With our world so threatened by cynicism & division, we owe it to ourselves & to our grand/children to enlist whole-heartedly in bringing to life a POLITICS OF TRUST.
16. We dare not fail ourselves, our grand/children, our future!

John Vasconcellos is the Dean Emeritus of the California Legislature, retired November 30, 2004 after 38 years representing the Heart of Silicon Valley in the Assembly and Senate. His legislative career was most distinctive because of his having simultaneously engaged in his 38-year search for becoming a person, according to the faithful vision of ourselves, our human nature and potential. His most notorious endeavor was the founding of the California Task Force to Promote Self Esteem and Personal and Social Responsibility. He has now founded the John Vasconcellos Legacy Project and it’s first major initiative the Politics of Trust Network as an historic comprehensive strategy for creating a wholly new politics of healing and hope, based upon that faithful vision, 'that we human beings are innately inclined toward becoming life-affirming, constructive, responsible and trustworthy.'
