I am a Junior; named after my Father, yet I never really knew him! All I remember was he was a resturant chef and the only thing he taught me was how to tie my shoes! SAD!

A Father should be an important person in each of our lifes - but that is not what always happens! Looking back on both my actual biological father and as well as my step-father {from the age of 13! Things could have been better!
Starting with my Bio-father: He was in the Army when I was born. Having met my dear mother in Alabama! We lived with his mother who had a business and was well off financially most of her adult life.
This you would think have would made for a solid base; not only for myself but also for my 18 month younger brother. Yet what was placed into orbit was the domination and control from our Grandmother!
Some years back, She married my Grandfather; who was a Building Contractor in Chicago and St Louis! They were together for a short time; about a year, before she sparred and went back to her parents homestead.
Then she stopped visitation from my father's dad, for the rest of his life.
She took great pains to isolate my father from his dad. One of my Great Aunts told me that over several years; my grandmother; stopped and isolation ed my father from being visited or seem by my grandfather!
She said that even on several occasions even after my grandfather had set up a time to come see my father; was foiled! My grandmother purposely , sent my Grand father out to some farms to prevent visitations. to make sure the the meetings never happened!
My Grandmother was a Liberated Woman back when it was not done! She Worked for The American Telephone & Telegraph company in New Orleans before moving to Miami and actually worked for a Doctor in Miami. and had pictures going out on Party Boats and such! She was there when the Hurricane of 1926 struck south Fla {BTW: I have her copy of the Hurricane Destruction of Miami!
My father was put up in boarding houses and private schools - never really knowing his father! His isolation did not help to solidify his life! In fact he met Huey Long! The 1928 election resulted in the election of Huey Long as Governor of Louisiana, and created a political realignment in the state between Long and anti-Long factions that lasted for several decades.
He then became part of such political happenings in Dixie! Working as a sort of free Galois working in short order cooks. Then WWII happened and he was drafted into the US Army.
Then he met my mother who was a RN and when I came into the picture! My father was a cook in the Army and fiddled around dealing into various things. Which caused him to spend some time in the Army Brig - Sad times.
Then my grandmother who then ran a Dry Cleaning Business sold out and moved to Fla! There she bought a hotel, and some Apartments. By this time I was 5 years old she had sold out and took me with her, down to St Petersburg Fl which she ran for her remaining years. She remained in the that area of world until her death some 40 years later! Owning several properties!
In the mean while my dear Father had continued to dabble and get into various and sundry {some off color things} often being bailed out by my Grand mother. Some people never seem to learn or get it in life!
After 10 years of questionable actives - Divorced him.
During that period of time he managed to continually become involved with border line people and various schemes!
My Father got into the wrong crowd and hand with some nefarious people both good and bad!
Example one time in GA, the Sher ff came out and reposed our car! I ask my mother why did that happen? She said well your father got into some bad dealings and the car was impounded! The whole sum of it was my Father was a shyster con man.
He even was arrested several times and eventually spent time in Florida Prison, He was arrested several times, in fact someone who knew me saw where he had been arrested for Auto Theft - asking me if I had a record - because of my fathers actives!
Which I know because when in the US Navy, being a JR, I received a notice for info on his alleged missed failure to appearance in a trial on north Fla.
I had to explain that I am a Junior and have no knowledge. In fact I was over seas in the Navy and not in the country during this time. Several times following years I would have police come to the door at my homes looking for my Dad. {Never name a son after his father - then life would be so much better for both!}
Except for promises and occasional contacts - I never really knew my real father!
