Gaia Story by Mayah .....

I had a healing session yesterday afternoon with Chris Eagle, Reiki Master and shamanic practitioner.* We were on the land of Topanga State Park in Southern California, a beautiful setting. We sat at the base of a huge oak, the Grandfather Tree. During the session, Mother Earth told Chris some things to tell me. One of them was that She wanted me to write "Gaia Stories".

As is usual for me, I go through what's called a "healing crisis" after an intense healing session. During this period of time, which may last hours to days, I generally experience some uncomfortable physical symptoms as well as irritability and moodiness. Late last night, I was sitting up in bed feeling tired and grumpy while writing in my journal about the events of the day. "I AM AN ARTIST, I don't necessarily wanna write! (Even though I'm doing it now). So, what's a 'Gaia Story' anyway?" I wrote sarcastically, "Once upon a time...???"

Realizing I was being resistant, I sighed, turned the page in my notebook, and started again: "Dear Gaia...what's a 'Gaia story'? Will you dictate them to me, please?" Here is what She dictated:

"Once in the long ago time before humans walked the earth, I loved a creature. This creature was made out of my bones and out of my flesh. This creature stood as tall as trees, with hide as tough as rock, and legs that made mini-earthquakes when she walked. This creature did not dream of money or things it could possess. No, this creature dreamed of the eggs she would lay and the rushing waters she would wade in and the lush, thick green grasses she would eat. And as she ate the grass, waded in the waters, and laid her eggs, all of her dreams were fulfilled and she was content.

Humans of today would say that this creature was 'dumb' because she never invented anything. She didn't invent cars or trucks or trains or planes; she didn't invent spaceships or rockets. She didn't invent guns or tanks or bombs, either. She never polluted the earth and then had to think about how to clean up her messes. She never invented war and then had to think about how to stop them. She never thought about killing her neighbors and then had to feel sorrowful and guilty. The only mess she made was if she stepped on something and it squished; this was by accident, of course, and even then her mess was taken care of as it gave the scavenger creatures something to eat. Her excrement, far from polluting the land, helped fertilize the grasses that fed her.

This creature, her mates, and her offspring walked on my surface for millions of years. Millions! Can you, dear human, imagine that? I loved her and her kind, no less than I love you."
