I went to spend time with a circle of mainly Women, Sunday May 21, 2017. The atmosphere was sacred. I began to weep and did weep at times throughout the gathering.
There was a deep appreciation of life and the embodiment of life through this special teacher.
For days before the first of a number of gatherings to honor Golden, I had anticipated the blossoming of a very special cactus flower in my garden. I thought this was a rare old friend cactus with pink flowers, but when the flower bloomed, on the very day of Drake Golden's reverent circle, the two blooms were pure white, the same color as Golden Drake's dress worn in a ceremonial photo her upcoming health Journey through deep waters.
Drake is a warrior among the Women in our community of San Diego. She is a devoted practitioner of yoga and healing practices. She is a single mom of two teens, a vegan by diet, and a devotee on a spiritual path.
The last time I saw her, she was the gatekeeper at a shamanic gathering, smudging all who entered. The time before, she inspired a poem I wrote called A Poem to a Shamanic Dancer.
March 22, she began a chemotherapy regimen for a rare kind of cancer. She is committed to combine western and integrative medical approaches.
Part of the healing for me personally and for others in our community is seeing that she has the funds needed to support living expenses and the best foods possible.
Many friends each presented gifts placed on an altar at the gathering I attended. My gift was a vile of 60 million-year-old soil that to me represents the triumph of Life through all obstacles. The ancient soil is symbolic of the womb of the earth. The womb and soil perseveres as much as the Soul perseveres.
Drake is keeping a meticulous journal, and I am projecting her health journey will involve living beyond cancer, as she receives an outpouring of support and as she guides her community in a passage of "love is all there is."
She writes in her health manifesto:
"documenting the phases of my journey through cancer. this is phase one. i pay homage to my body, which has worked so hard to be healthy and balanced in an imbalanced world. this body works to clear old trauma & carries infinite hope. prayers & mantras are coded in my cells. this body has housed & birthed two amazing souls. these breasts spent four years nourishing growing babies. this body is strong, resilient. this body dances, stretches, celebrates. this body holds loved ones close. this body breathes steadily. this body is going into cocoon phase, from which it will emerge transformed. stronger. more resolute. my soul within is preparing to journey with the dark mother. i will be surrounded by loved ones, but this journey is a solo experience for my body, mind, soul to know total transformation. i trust my body. i trust my mind. i trust my soul. i know all is well, no matter what. with the courage of a warrior, i surrender to what is. "
