Business Meeting by chef jem .....

Does "business" include revitalization, maintenance and the day-to-day house keeping?

This "gardener"-writer is happy to have had a conversation yesterday with a friend who offered their facilitation support for us to have a "business meeting" (at what had been referred to as the: "Enchanted Garden Intentional Community").

Before we have that meeting this writer would like the facilitator to define what they mean by "business" so that this can be readily understood and agreed upon by all the participants. This is requested because this writer had adopted "The Four Agreements"[1] and the Third Agreement is "Don't Make Assumptions." Since we are meeting with others who have not had any meetings in our present day configuration (let alone meetings with an exclusive business focus) there must be no assumptions that everyone will automatically know what is expected of them. Therefore one of the first things that deserves to be defined is what we mean by: "business."

When this writer first returned to this location close to eight years ago he immediately recognized a contrast in the appearance of things from when he was here nine years earlier. The whole place needed to be revitalized. As far as he could tell at that time no one was giving any attention to that need. It may be reasonable to say - obviously no one cared. Again that is just the way it appeared to this writer based on no plan of action and no conversation addressing any of the needs for revitalizing the place.

The owner had essentially abandoned the upkeep and it sorely showed. This writer was motivated to do something about it from the start however it was overwhelming to him just as an individual. He had conversation with the on-site manager about this and was told not to be concerned with the magnitude of the need. A couple months later he was inspired to take on a specific project that he got help with.

The project required digging out two French drains across the front of the property. The whole project took this writer and his mason miracle man about a year and a quarter. The end result was that the rain water leakage that was a problem going inside the place was completely stopped. That is one of about a dozen other projects needed toward the overall "revitalizing" that is overdue on this place.

This writer is the only one (of possibly two or three) who remembers just how "sore" the impact of the situation was as well as what all was required to remedy the situation as he was the only one who was literally down in the trenches digging out the new drainage system. In light of all of this he still wonders if others can appreciate how much he wanted a helper to work with him. The thought of the possibility of that helper finally came a little over a year ago by someone who has had more experience (and most certainly more tools! ; ~ ). However now he is beginning to learn that there are people who want this other individual to leave although it is unknown whether the manager actually gave a direct (aura to aura) communication to that effect. As far as I am concerned this is about an exclusive agreement that was made just between the "helper" and the manager and therefore it can only be up to these two individuals to resolve whatever issue may be up at this time. This writer is not a party to it in any way even though there was some process with others that joined together to get the helper to leave. One of these individuals shared the intent. This writer immediately responded saying articulate your observations, disclose your honest feelings and make a reasonable (doable) request. Apparently that did not really happen.

Knowing this only underscored for this writer what he had been saying all along and that is we need to work on improving our communications and more specifically develop our ability to dialogue. As this writer has blogged at other times: "Dialogue is the new community"!

This writer wishes to proceed with the revitalization of the current location. To do that he needs at least one strong helper. The still current helper fits that bill for "strength", endurance, consistency, know-how and the like. The still current helper also has a unique Human Design and this writer thinks it is fair to say some conditioning that is a challenge for a number of people.

Life is either challenging or people are "dead." People need to understand what they are resisting in this helper. The helper is an former sargent. Their Human Design requires that they have control over something and that means that they have the freedom to do it their own way without others interfering (as has been the case in this instance). In addition there is a lot that needs to be understood about this individuals natal chart including a verified challenge with anger and with expressing anger. Would an anger management counselor or the like help? ... If it could help would that make a difference for the other people concerned? .....

No one else is taking any interest toward understanding the helper. That fact is evident with the lack of dialogue as well as the urgent need to learn how to dialogue. With more understanding of the individual's Human Design, natal horoscope and the like the more compassion and empathy arises for the deep challenges that can be seen.

Back to the start of what might be considered as a "long tangent". The location for the possible "business meeting" is a place that has been in need of some major restoration for over twenty years. There is virtually no evidence of any care in the direction of revitalization other than what our helper and this writer have given (plus one other electrician). There is also little evidence of care on a level just below "revitalization" that can be called "maintenance" (not to mention one level below that called day-to-day house-keeping). The people who apparently could care less about revitalization, maintenance and the day-to-day house keeping apparently can not imagine how irritating their resistance becomes to others who are doing all they can to attend to things on levels that are well over their abilities!

The condition that exists today was not always like this. When the owners were on site there was accountability and everyone had to carry there weight or they would immediately hear about it! All of that behavior went out the window when the owners moved off site. Later after the male owner stopped coming back for some of the maintenance the site fell into sore shape.

There is a larger perspective needed to be taken into account that goes beyond taking reactionary offense to the relentless sargent-like orders coming from an individual who is doing their best (with the ability to do it best) to make a big difference that is so sorely needed.

Once again, back to the "business meeting" and now another question. Does house-keeping come under the category of business? Was house-keeping referred to as "adult behavior" in a previous conversation that this writer had with the manager? If so then what is "adult behavior"? .........

Finally as we establish the new order "of business" does that get communicated to new people? ......... If so how and most especially by whom? .........
