Intermittent Fasting Diet
Date: 3/23/2015 12:24:48 AM ( 9 y ago)
Today is my 14th "fast day" since this all began. I've been continuing on since the last entry with the schedule of doing a 500 calorie day Mon, Weds & Fri - with the rest of the days of the week as normal days. Things are slowly transforming!
I spent a couple of hours on the Fast Diet website a couple weeks ago & realized they were advocating sticking to a 2000 or so calorie diet on the non fast days which seems quite at odds with the BBC Program which more or less points to the benefits of ADF being that on the non fast days you can pretty much eat anything. This combined with my progress so far has made me become progressively more aware of what I'm taking in on the non-fast days - while at the same time doing the fast days is cutting my old habitual taste for so much sugar, junk foods, etc. I wouldn't have said that I ate a lot of junk food - now, however, after fasting & now starting the ADF lifestyle I feel just generally more and more repelled by them - I'm finding if I'm eating something out (around here in the rural area there are not many fresh choices where that is concerned) I'm really thinking hmmm what is the least offensive thing on this menu that isn't going to make me feel like crap & then still somehow finding myself now feeling very good eating even that. This is really pushing me more & more into wanting to pack a healthy picnic if I'm going to have a day out for instance, even on a non-fast day. These things are just naturally evolving as I progress which shows how deep the effect of changing my eating lifestyle is.
I haven't weighed in since last time, but I can feel I've lost some weight & clothes that were tight are getting loose, etc. I'm really starting to feel like my old self, have been using the new bike trainer now most days & doing yoga - trying to get a good session of exercise in at least 3 or 4 times a week along with the general gardening, housework, running about, etc. Seems like my activity is increasing now that I'm getting used to the 500 calorie days - for the first few weeks I would find myself napping during the middle of just about all these days but now suddenly I'm sleeping less, not napping much and my activity and energy levels are coming up. The headaches haven't happened for a couple weeks now - so I feel I'm adjusting now to the low cal days & really getting used to them.
At first I was eating mainly a shirataki noodle pasta lunch so some sort & a cauliflower rice dinner with chicken or fish or something. That was what I made every fast day almost for the first few weeks lol, which was really good and allowed me good portions of stuff within the restriction - now this has also changed, I've started really mixing up and am learning lots more combo's of food I can make work - I made a taboulleh, seaweed salad, found a really good lo cal gaspacho in the supermarket so I've been having that, the last fast day I didn't eat much early on and had a lite wrap with chicken & a little veg for dinner -- doing this is also teaching me what keeps me full longer, or keeps the headaches away - I started having a small 100 cal parfait for breakfast on some of the fast days or 60g of watermelon in my soda water - finding that the small amount of fruit kept the headaches from coming - so learning how to balance this small allowance in a way that makes my day and feeling much better - each week has been a learning experience & I'm learning a lot.
I haven't broken from the fast days at all and am able to keep going with this lifestyle confidently. Feels like my weight loss is sure and steady - slowly slowly... really empowering to be discovering this is a better way to live now. Made myself up a nice chart of the caloric contents of foods this weekend - going to laminate it and use it often in the kitchen. It's too much hassle to count everything on the non-fast days, I'm not going to really do that - but learning to count gives me a pretty good rough idea and eating less 3 days of the week is really making me naturally want less the other days. Have cut way down on sugar and sweets too - I might enjoy a few biscuits etc on a non fast day, but I really stop there - and the sugar I used to have in my teas & coffee has probably become 75% Eythiritol on the non-fast days and pretty much 0 on the fast days.
This is all going really well, very glad to be doing it!
