Low carb could be the cure for flaking red skin.

Hi,
Around 8 years ago I burned myself pretty harshly ands ince that day my skin hasn't been the same. My4 cheeks have been constantantly red at varying degrees and all parts of my face except my forehead have been oily, bloated and flaky. I was diagnosed by two dermatologists with Rosacea, but I'm sure it's something else. I've yet been able to determine exactly what kind of disease it is I have, but some I would say it's some kind of seb derm.

Since that day I've tried perhaps 100 different topicals that have all had pretty similiar results. Some work a Little better, some a Little worse. None of them have been catastrophic, but then again, none have worked really well. Since a couple of years I've just sticked to a normal moisturizer that you can buy at any supermarket.

My skin would be constantly red and flaky. Every time I shaved a lot of loose skin would peel and I would be extra red after a shower for up to several hours. If I was exposed to sun for more than 10 minutes I would burn myself and my skin would be really red. Everytime after a shower I would have to apply lotion twice so my skin wouldn't be dry/flaky. This I would have to repeat every day.

This was until 4 months ago when I had a moment of clarity (as they would say in Púlp Fiction). Last spring my skin had started to progressively become much better all the way until the summer when I moved abroad. I spent the summer in Asia where all food had a large serving of rice, which means (A LOT of carbohydrates!). During my two months there my skin got a Little worse over the course i was there and was almost as bad as it had even been previously. The couple of months after that my skin became a little better, but very slowly.

Then one day I started to imagine my diet could have had an effect since, I probably ate at the least 3-400 grams of carbs every day in Asia and Before my trip there, in the spring I remember eating a lot of meat, sausages and so forth. I started experminenting with a low carb diet in late October last year.

Today, my skin is the best It's been since I burned my skin some 8 years ago. In my diet I focus to eat a low carb diet, most days under -75 grams a day, but once or twice a week I'll have a day with around 150-200 and a very occasional day when I don't focus on carbs at all. I know very well I could speed up the process if I Went 100% carb free but that to me is just unrealistic.

Three months ago if i ate lets say 300g of carbs in a day it would usually result in some kind of flare up but not today. I've yet tried to go on a "carb streak" if you will, and don't intend to. To me this process hasn't been hard at all since I don't exclude any food at all, just have very limited portions of high-carb food/drinks.

One thing that unfortunately is true, at least in my case is that the progress is not completely linear. I still flare up even though I've not gone over --100grams a day for a while but the good part is the improvements are far greater than the "bad parts/days". My face looks better on a bad day/days today than a good day three months ago. So it's kind of a two steps forward one step back process.

I know I still have a lot of months of improvement to do. Today I usually only have to apply lotion ONCE every other day and every week my skin gets less and less red and the flakes keep getting smaller and smaller. I'm hoping by summer I'm hoping i will have, what you would call "normal skin". I don't know if that is possible in that time or ever. However I know i can at the very least be lotionfree since i went a whole 2 weeks without it prior to my trip to Asia.

My experience from topicals is that none (and I'm talking about 100s) have ever worked in a satisfactory way. Perhaps there is some miracle topical out there but I've yet to find it.

If the sympoms I described above are relatable to you, please go ahead and try a low carb diet for a couple of weeks. You should definately within that period have at least a couple of days that make you go: "Wow, this might be it" moment. If not, I sincerely hope you'll someday soon find something that can cure you from this horrible condition!

Very short about my acne: I've had moderate to mild acne since the age of 13, I'm 22 today. It has been tough dealing with it, but not at all at the same degree as my other condition (seb derm/rosacea??). Since going on a low carb diet my skin has been less oily and I very seldom get big zits which I used to get at least once a week Before. Also for big zits, the best thing I've found you can do is: A) hot water on a cloth and B) Water with salt. A lot of times if you do the two steps on a large pimple it can improve it tremendously!

If you have any questions regarding my skin, diet or other questions, please go ahead and ask.

I wish you all a great day!
