I carried this 24x36 with me in my 68 VW Van called the Enchanted Garden Mobile in route to the National Heirloom Expo, September 9-10-11, 2014. Following the event, I took my annual retreat at the Frey Vineyard, where some of the finest Biodynamic and Organic Wines are made by the remarkable Frey Family who care so much in many ways for of humanities highest aspirations.
I left a copy with Katrina Frey of the Frey family to be displayed at the Winery.
Here is a picture of Katrina and me, Leslie Goldman, when I gave this gift.
I have a vision that this work of art will help to fundraise for important causes as well as my own journey to Win Back Our Sacred Seeds.
I am beginning to imagine what my needs will be for 2015 to make my trips possible and continue work at home in our household in San Diego.
THERE IS AN IMPORTANT STORY BEHIND THIS ART GIFT
There was a man named Peter Dukich who loved the earth very much. He lived to be 92. In made biodynamic compost for more than 50 years. Some people think of Organic Growing of food as if it has a science explanation. There are finer forces in nature working that are also part of the growth process.
We will never fully comprehend life, human growth, and plant growth merely through science.
This story demonstrates a personal experience I had with Peter Dukich who spent the final birthday of his life here at my home.
At that time, there was a Biodynamic Farm in our area called Tierra Miguel. On my time of celebration, I visited the farm. I received two sunflower seedlings that I took home. A few weeks later, Peter and his wit Charlotte, a Waldorf master teacher, came over on Peter's birthday.
We planted the two sunflowers in a ritual.
One sunflower was planted by Peter who said the Lord's Prayer as he planted the sunflower. He was a fervent practitioner of this prayer that has universal origins within a number of faiths both Jewish and Christian. It is a prayer that I believe was also said by the ancient Essenes, whose beliefs may have pre-dated both a formalized Hebrew as well as Christian origin.
There were two sunflowers that were planted on Peter's Birthday in my backyard.
One was with the Biodynamic compost that Peter had made that he called Peter's Powder. In his days of strength he would make bags and bags compost. In his later years, when he was beyond being able to lift these heavy bags or make the compost in piles, he would spend his time planting the future by sifting the dust of the compost into plastic containers. I still have some of them, as do a number of others in Southern California.
Peter's sunflower grew about 1/3 larger than the sunflower I planted and cared for. Both were likely watered with rain water. My sunflower got some bug life and never fully blossomed into all it could be. Peter's sunflower was vibrant. I took a series of photos when Peter's Sunflower was at its peak.
I am sure there could be some scientific explanation of why his sunflower was so more resilient than my own. I choose to believe it has something to do with the power and intent he put into that Peter's Powder and his dedication to what he believed.
I will always tell that story, and I hope it gains meaning among those who today are looking to the soil for continued sustenance.

Catching up with some thoughts inspired by Katrina Frey of the Frey Organic Wines and Biodynamic Wines. The Frey family was one of my primary sponsors on The Enchanted Garden Mobile's Journey To Win Back Our Sacred Seeds and journey to The National Heirloom Exposition I am starting to write down visions and seed dreams for the next journey up there to the Frey land that will be part of by September 8-9-10, 2015 trip that will stop and visit the displays of Frey Wine in various Whole Foods Market from San Diego North. I will tell people about the people behind the products I love and use and who make it possible for their to be such an out of the Pizza Box person like myself in the world who drives from place to place in a 68 VW Van destined for Hollywood fame. These companies that support my work include Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps KAMUT International Eden Foods Patricia Bragg and her marvelous Bragg Live Food Products and Richard Katz (and staff) of the Flower Essence Services (FES)
The Frey Family and generations of offspring are to be commended for all the good they do in the world with their various dreams coming to fruition always.
The Heirloom show brings the leaders of GMO Education and Seed Saving, and Seed Libraries together as well as those in Biodynamic Association education.
I want to especially thank Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company and its wonderful staff for welcoming me to be part of their family. At this time of Thanksgiving I send continued Blessings out to Jere Gettle Emilee Gettle Lisa O'Leary Paul Wallace John Brazaitis and Quintin Eason.
