"A History of a Crime Against The Food Law" was written by Dr. Harvey W. Wiley, M.D. in 1929. In 2012, I took up the rally cry "Grow A Healthier Pizza" in response to Washington going into agreement that two ounces of tomato sauce would define Pizza as a Vegetable. This cartoon was published on March 21, 1912, when Dr. Harvey W. Wiley, called the Father of the FDA, and one of the nation's top Pure Food and freedom from Drug advocates, stepped down from his post at the Bureau of Chemistry. He defended Pure Food. Uncle Sam, in the cartoon, recognizes the importance of Dr Harvey Wiley's work. One hundred years later, the battle to educate about GMO adulteration was launched when the CA initiative Prop 37 began. To win back our Sacred Seeds, we need to cultivate Pure Seed and Food grassroots movement consciousness through gardening ancient grains and heirloom seeds.

"For 20 years, at least, the food poisoners of the country have waged warfare on Dr. Harvey W. Wiley and since the passage of the Pure Food Act in 1906 they have trebled efforts to have him discharged. These Borgias of business have won, for the circumstances attended Dr Wiley's recent resignation make it, in practical effect, a dismissal.
"Dr Wiley resigned because the fundamental principles of the Pure Food Law have been strangled; because he has been powerful to punish the manufacturers of misbranded and adulterated drugs and foods; and because the powers of his position had been nullified by executive orders.
"Dr. Wiley was only head of the Bureau of Chemistry, but there is every reason to believe that President Taft will find that Dr Wiley gave the position
an importance out of all proportion to its standing."
