Our 3 hour Fruit Tree Care and Culture workshop will focus on the various requirements of subtropical and deciduous fruit trees (as well as a few sellect tropical varieties), with an emphasis on growing them in our Southern California Climate. Workshop will include a section on the basics of arboricultural concepts, tips on selecting the right fruit tree and variety for your location. We will cover potential pest problems, fertilizer requirements, pruning basics, soil preferences, and cultivars ideal for the San Diego region.

The second half of the workshop will be held in Wild Willow Farm's orchards, and will include hands-on instruction on planting, pruning and training basics, as well as tips for proper monitoring of your own backyard orchard. Expect to walk away with a greater appreciation for the benefits trees have to offer our community, a strong basic understanding of your fruit trees' requirements, and a list of resources to reference in your future fruit-growing endeavors.

Gabe Mitchell is Wild Willow Farm's Orchard Guru.
