January 1, 2023 - Buried Underneath a Mountain of Assumptions and Societal Agreements -
"By the time the wiring (in the mind) is complete it does not remember innocence except perhaps as a distant dream and a longing. It's not really forgettable, but buried underneath a mountain of assumptions and societal agreements, occasionally shimmering through in art and philosophy."[1]*

There are at least two discernible dimensions of value to any agreement that you make. One is the reality of the subject matter of the agreement. i.e. one common type of agreement is the agreement to do or not do something (to perform some kind of service, consideration, provide some kind of a product, etc.) in exchange for some form of "compensation" (or possibly not). If it is a written agreement then the particulars of the "exchange" is generally plainly known and typically has some kind of value (typically monetary) attached to it.
There is a second dimension of your agreement which is your word. For that this Blog-writer most highly recommend reading Don Miguel Ruiz's book: "The Four Agreements" (blogged at "Son of Truth of Self" a number of times). The first agreement is: "Be Impeccable with Your Word". The question that this Blog-writer would suggest is that you ask yourself: "what is the value of my word?"
Do you count the value of your word in relation to the value of your "performance"? Have you ever heard anyone ever say "their word is as good a gold"? What is gold content of your word? .........
