Had a healing moment with
Kelly Bryson, whose clarity in Non Violent
compassionate communication
skills I value in these times when more and more of us
are compelled to learn to live together in community.

I imagine that in my attempt since 1982 to live here fully,
and to bring down
to earth the vision of the Enchanted Garden Intentional Community
Growing Growing Grounds and
and allow this land to become a living and breathing
full on Enchanted Garden Intentional Community,
I have broken most every rule
of good communication.

A certain balance is needed between
the male and female aspects of ourself
to live with others, and yet the fate of the earth
herself lies in the balance. I know I and others
are compelled to find this balance.

More and more of us are needed now to enter
the conversation not only about living in intentional community,
but adding cooperative living in the world
through making attempts to live together.

There are people in Kansas who live
six miles apart because they need so much space
between them and their neighbor.

Can you imagine attempting to live in a two story
house with eight others here in San Diego,
here in an urban setting? Most of us
know better how to live in the boxes we call
apartments. We come in with unfinished business
with parents and from childhood.

For the most part, I have rented rooms
here to people who aspired to want community.
I have not set the Vision clearly. Maybe I have
been too afraid. I have used community living
and being the manager here as perhaps a way
to avoid doing my other full time job,
the mass of details it would take to allow
the many books and writings that sit on my shelf
to truly be set free to live in your heart.

I am stunned at times to see so many
unfinished projects, to live in the midst
of clutter. I once had a woman, an early
tantric housemate live here. She was from
Germany. She was helping me clean.
She saw the quality of what sits on my shelves
in masses of notebooks, one stuffed on top of the other.
She could not understand why the work
was not out, she found it so moving.

At times, I live so in the moment.
I create merely for the healing of expression.
That does not mean I know how to partner
with others who have the skills needed
to take something magical and see it
go where intended. Often, I take a book
just so far. I sell a few copies. I take it to
a book publishing fair. I find the contacts.
I go so far. Then life asks me to turn my
attention to another fire that asks to be put out.

We were at a gathering of core Whole Being advocates
on Monday.

i was embarrassed that I feel I hogged too much of the space
and time of the meeting.

In a room of healers, I wanted to heal a relationship of
conflict that had caused two people pain.
I was one of them.

We are now ending the Summer of Shift 2010.
Some say, the world as we know it will end in 2012.
I say the earth has already shifted.
We can no longer ask her to adapt to us.
We are called to adapt to her.


THE KEY IS RELATIONSHIP

A week ago, I was sitting in my backyard shaking
inside and pre-occupied by a very uncomfortable
relationship at home.

It has taken lives out of me to hold the space here
for this land to simple be as it is now, a land with the
potential to serve more and more students of life who
need a place to gather and touch their soul
through touching the soil.

The world is falling apart around us nicely.
There is a crack and we are cracking up well.
Most of us do not yet know that the soul
is hidden at the bottom of the crack.
We do not know that breakdowns lead to breakthroughs,
and soul growth can be the prize.

In that moment in the backyard,
I was at a loss. I was talking to another
housemate who dedicates enormous time
to be present to each and every need I and others have
to be heard. He is a true blessing ot my life,
Chef Jem, who blogs here on Curezone.

At the moment when I was at such a loss,
a little hummingbird flew close by.
These are birds that I have watched nest
in our orange tree. We have a family of hummingbirds
that come back each year and are so trusting.
Two of three years a mother bird has nested
right at eye level. I have taking close ups of the babes
who stay in the nest around 21 days.

I once had remorse because I caused one babe
to fly out perhaps too soon from the nest,
but I have been forgiven I imagine by the
hummingbirds. They continue to trust
and share so much joy, always appearing
as a totem to inform certain moments
with connection.

And so in that moment, when I felt so lost,
so feeling out of touch with solution,
so at my wit's end,
so completely and totally feeling incapable
of making the Shift I am seeing so basic to many of us,
the hummingbird came.

The message in that visit was to do what I can
to compassionately communicate and listen.
If I do this, if I am willing to engage not only in
hugs with others, but face the dark between
you and I, then perhaps the hummingbirds
will still have a home.
