What Dr. Weston A. Price Discovered ... And What Has Been "Largely Ignored" by chef jem .....

Some highlights of the discoveries of Dr. Weston A. Price

Date:   6/22/2010 3:38:07 AM ( 14 y ago)

"Dr. Price discovered an additional fat soluble vitamin that he called "Activator X" and which was also referred to by others as the Price Factor or X Factor, and is now believed to be vitamin K2. It is a powerful catalyst which, like vitamins A and D, helps the body absorb and utilize minerals. It was present in the diets of all the healthy population groups he studied but unfortunately has almost completely disappeared from the modern western diet. Sources include organ meats from cows eating green grass, fish eggs and shellfish. Butter can be an especially rich source of Activator X/vitamin K2 when it comes from cows eating rapidly growing grass in the Spring and Fall seasons. It disappears in cows fed cottonseed meal or high protein soy-based feeds."

"Dr. Price found these foods to be very rich in fat soluble vitamins A, vitamin D and Activator X — nutrients found only in animal fats."

"Unfortunately, Dr. Price’s work was largely ignored. However, his work was preserved by the Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation, which devoted itself to keeping his book in print, and keeping his knowledge alive. The Weston A. Price Foundation was founded in 1999. They have done a magnificent job of spreading Dr. Price’s knowledge all over the world and the Internet. Sally Fallon, the founder of the Weston A. Price Foundation, wrote Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats, a comprehensive cookbook which teaches the reader to cook traditional food that can restore their health. Nourishing Traditions also explains the teachings of Dr. Price in a way that is easy to understand."

"Dr. Weston A. Price presented his discoveries and conclusions in his classic volume, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration. The book, with its striking photographs of handsome, healthy people from isolated cultures, unforgettably illustrates the physical degeneration that occurs when human groups abandon nourishing traditional diets in favor of modern convenience foods."

Reflections on Reading Weston A. Price
by Michael Babcock:

"Modern nutrition researchers are showing renewed interest in the foodways of our ancestors, but myths about primitive diets abound. The first is easily dismissed-that traditional diets were largely vegetarian. Anthropological data confirm what Price found, namely that throughout the globe, all societies show a preference for animal foods and fats.(3) Modern scientific literature does not support the claims made for vegetarian diets.(4)"
