Discovered http://www.aliceqfoodie.blogspot.com/

from my visit at http:
//thelinkery.com/blog/grass-farming-in-wynola/

and in the "San Diego Culinary Events" I was happy to see advance dates for "Potluck/Movie at La Milpa Organica". How exciting to then find dates running until Saturday, June 19, 2038! I imagine this may be a "glitch" in Google calendar program.

In any case the idea of returning to La Milpa for our monthly potlucks as of Saturday, February 20, 2010 is a pleasant thought!

Update Three months later:
The Saturday, February 20, 2010 gathering today was canceled, supposedly because of rain however the rain stopped before noon and the rest of the day was pleasant enough IMO for the community to come together on the farm. Yet, the farm has some challenges now that have become acute in the last 10 days and even more acute in the last two. In revisiting the Google calendar (which is still projecting dates till "Saturday, June 19, 2038" I can't help to wonder just what the future of the farm will be. More disconcerting is the news I heard this afternoon regarding the State's mission and the apparent targeting of small farms for revenue collection via hefty fines! I have just blogged about that earlier today. If you love anything about small farms then please read today's recent blog.

Final Update: La Milpa is now closed! I would like to have a co-counseling session on this. Any co-counselors in San Diego?
I was told that the farm manager was "turning himself in" to spend time in jail. One may ask what was the crime? Crime, as in "injured party"? There was no crime involved here! This was simply a case of people who were apparently mistaken about exercising their Right to live their life and Pursuit of Happiness. (I guess the Declaration of Independence is not required reading by code enforcers these days!) The virtually volunteer help were assumed to be employees (show me the evidence on that!) and Lord knows how ugly government can be over things they rule over like employment. That is regardless whether any "employees" filed complaints. One can only wonder what may have pissed off a government employee to get them to attack a small farm that was doing the right thing as far as growing good food! Does it seem a bit strange that whatever the original cause was that it cost the community a farm? Is any one interested in having this investigated?

Thank You!

Chef Jem
