Some time back in the 1950's; down Dixie Way... There was an old Negro gentleman, by the name of Samba who in the evening, worked as a buss boy in a local establishment in Fla... BTW: Remember, this was 1955, when gas was 25c a gallon, a new car was about $2450, and a nice home was less than $10K, the minimum wage was $1 and if you made $100 a week you were stepping in high cotton, as we say down in the Southland...

Well on an average night he would wait till the patrons were through then clear the table and set it up for the next guest... Many of the patrons thought that Samba was a dumb as dirt! A favorite trick was to get a crowd together then go over to Samba as he was cleaning up... They would tell him they wanted to give him a choice as to how much of a tip he should get...
Usually it started out as a simple question, yet in their hearts it was an attempt to show how dumb old Samba was... They would do this sometimes several times a night, then laugh as to Samba's apparent stupidity...
It went like this this: " Samba, you have been doing such a good job we wanted to give you the chance to see how much of a tip you want! " Then they would offer him a quarter, or a dollar bill; his choice for the tip... He would stand there and look at both, then quickly snatch the quarter, then go back to his job... Of course the local patrons would laugh and talk how stupid he was...
One night a visitor was watching, after one of these events, she took time to ask Samba, if he understood the difference between the money offered to him? " Yes, Ma'am I know the difference, but the day I take the dollar there will not be any more quarters..."
"At times while the truth is obvious, but the reason for a person's actions may not be fully understood; until much later!" a True-ism
